SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

It looks very nice.

Always insert a space betwen your images to keep them from running together. jmo. ;)

The Tank is looking amazing :)

Love the shallow tanks. Those Tangs look awesome too.

My new tank will be very similar to yours....hopefully.

Great execution.

When will you be adding the Corals?

very very nice build- I would suggest removing the bioballs from the overflow and replacing them with rock.Just a thought other wise the tank and build is well thought off and beautiful.

Thanks everybody!!!

GASMAN- The bioballs are only there to break the splashing noise of the water going down the overflow box..

UPDATE:

Well, i just finished installing Beast-o!..a 35 watt Aqua Medic Helix Max UV Sterilizer!!! (INSERT IGNORE IGNORE EVIL LAUGH HERE!)..

A little 5 watt UV would have worked fine..but i got a killer deal on this one..which would be 600% more than i would actually need..LOL

As far as coral goes.. well, i have some zoas in there right now..LOL

SPS will have to wait a little bit longer, i just wanna have the tank in the best conditions possible..

But soon nonetheless! :D

looks great, i cant wait for my 48x27x14 shallow reef tank, i am going to focus on 75% bubble tip anemones and 25% mixed reef :)

true sound barrier but certainly can be problematic donw the road.
perhaps some LR rubble will do as well as add to your filtration.;)

I think he's worried about the bio-balls becoming a nitrate producer in the long run... I would assume if you took them out every now and then for a good rinse/cleaning you'd be ok...

Oh absolutely!.. Im very well aware food and other junk will get caught in between the bio balls..so a good rinse/scrub will be part of the maintenance routine..

Hi, nice tank. I'm going to be setting up a very similarly sized tank in the next couple of months (probably 32X32X22 or similar). Anyway, just curious what your opinions are on glasscages brand tanks now that you own one? Their prices are much more reasonable than some of the quotes I've gotten from other custom tank builders. But, I'm concerned about the quality of workmanship. Thanks!

HATFIELJ:

Ive know people who have or had glasscages tanks.. and they never had a single problem. They are build pretty solid..i really like mine and you cant beat the price.

great- just trying to simplify your maintenance.:D

Thanks GASMAN :)

Ok, so for anybody that knows Prodibio (Marc!!!) :P.. all i need is the Biokit?.. It has Bio Digest, Bioptim, Reef Booster, IODI, and Stronti..

So will this be good to start with?..

Any ideas?

awesome tank, love the modern look.

not to jinx you but I have always had issues with long nose hawks jumping out of my tanks. they are deep water fish and dont seem to have any concept of the surface being the end of thelr "world" and the beginning of our much drier one. I have had much better luck with flame hawks in open top tanks.

I love those fish but its Just my experience, I hate to see/hear about "carpet surfers".

UPDATE:

Well, finally decided..

Gonna go with Prodibio and the Tunze COMLINE Calcium Automat..

Hopefully that mix will give me good colors and good growth..

Im worried about the hawkfish perching and irritating coral.. will he have to go??

All the fish are eating like pigs..and i have seen AMAZING changes in my water clarity since i added the UV sterilizer..

As far as the anthias go?..Any suggestions?
