SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

UPDATE:

Well guys, unfortunately the little surprise won't be happening. I was going to get a Sfiligoi 400w Infinity pendant but couldn't do it last minute...grrrr! But whatever, i will be keeping my Aqua Medic pendants :) I like 'em..

Sorry to hear the 400 didn't work out. I do, however, think you might need a bubble king skimmer... oh, and LED lighting around the rim of the tank.

UPDATE:

Well my girlfriend is really good at telling me to avoid buying stuff i don't want but rather stuff i need. My gut told me i needed a Marineland C-360 canister filter... so i bought one instead of the JBJ one...LOL

The deal with the Aqua Medic Reef doer Quadro didn't go through which i'm glad since thats 2 pumps too many.. So i ordered a twin doser from Marine Depot.

..and i know no SPS yet, but VERY soon.. In the mean time, enjoy a picture of my new derasa. I picked it up today.. not the best pic. I need to kill the flow completely for a nicer pic. Enjoy :)

..now im off to ihop.. Im craving pancakes..LOL

Sweet tank!
Very nice setup.

I would keep track of your alk especially with that clam.
Also test phosphates calcium levels and magnesium levels before putting sps in there.
I made a mistake by not doing that and got brown corals.

Sweet build thread I have read through the whole thing.

UPDATE:

Hey guys, i know its been a while but i was busy with school and finals and all that crap.

Well, i got a kick@ss Korallin C1512 Ca. reactor and im thinking about setting it up VERY soon..although, im still worried about not having an auto top off system and how this may hurt the tank.. Im always sure the water level and salinity is where it should be.

I will be using KNOP KORALlith media..

Question is, for those of you using a Korallin reactor.. How do you have it set up? ...and, do you have an auto top-off system??

Thanks!!

If you get an ATO system, get the Tunze. I got it and I LOVE it. I have used the JBJ, Tsunami, and Float switches in the past. NOTHING beats the tunze. It's just awesome!

The tunze eh?...hmmm I will look into it..

But if i wanna set up my reactor right now could i do it? or should i wait until i get my ATO??

IMO, one has nothing to do with the other. ATO is very important, but, since you don't have a lot of calcium demanding SPS yet, you could probably hold off on the reactor. You might even want to look into using two part with a litermeter. On tanks our size, reactors aren't really that necessary.

My two cents,
Dave

TUNZE osmolator is 10x better than the next best AT0 i would never operate a reef tank without one again.

Agreed. I use the osmolator and it works very well.

Thanks guys!

Well, i already have everything to run the reactor.. I guess i will go ahead and install it and then focus on getting a Tunze ATO :)

ClownReef Here is a 60 gallon shallow reef i built its 24w-48L-12H with a tek light 4 T5

Update:

Well, i will be adding my first SPS this weekend!!

These are my parameters as of today:

Ca: 480 (Salifert)
Alk: Dont have a test kit :(
PH: 8.3 (API)
NO3: 0.0 ppm (API)
NO2: 0.0 ppm (Salifert)
NH4: 0 (Salifert)
Salinity: 1.025
Temp: 79.7 (Brand NEW temp probe)

I have awesome random flow coming from the 2 Oceans Motions return flex nozzles and the two nano streams..

I will install the Korallin reactor when i figure out how to do so..LOL..

In the mean time, i will be using B-Ionic to keep the parameters in check..

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
