SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

WOW! Thanks guys!!! :D:D:D.. My girlfriend insisted i patched up the ceiling before going to bed tonight..LOL.. The nerveeee...

Well, no word from Reefer Madness..ill try to call tomorrow..

Clown one thing....... I did the same thing with my lumenmax's and they did not spread the same way as they did the other way I had to re mount them to get the coverage FWIW

I am still baffled at how you can get female pipe threads on that 90 to seal up to the threads on the outside of a bulkhead.............
I don't think silicone should be used anywhere on PVC plumbing, it just isn't necessary. I do not mean to be a jerk I just see an easy to plumb system with a lot of mistakes, I'm not sure who your master plumber friend is, but I'm guessing he hasn't laid eyes on this project?
I hope you get it all sealed up well, I hate to see you discouraged over the little stuff :)
Chris

Well, we dont have a lot of space to work with..so the way the dining room is set..this was the best way possible. We tried to play around with the setup..but this was the best position..

He is just saying to rotate the tank, not move the whole setup. I concur, if it has to go in that space, rotate the tank 90 degrees clockwise so the overflow is in the corner of the room. Its a cube so it shouldnt make any difference :)

Well, if i rotate it the chords will be hanging off the side..and i DONT want to do the whole hanging thing again..i really like it the way it is. If anything, i can cover the side of the overflow box..

Well..after waiting to hear back from Reefer Madness about the Helio bulbs.. I found out they had to send back all of them because they were defective..

So..since they had no idea when they would get bulbs that actually work..i decided to contact the good folks at Hello Lights and get two 250w Reeflux 12K's. I had them before and loved them so.. so much for Helios..LOL

I liked the crips look of the Reeflux and cant go wrong with them.. Cant wait to get them in and fire 'em up!

I liked the reeflux when i had them. The 12Ks are VERY crisp and just the right amount of blue. Since i wont have any VHOs as supplement lighting..i think its probably the best choice. The Helios were 12.5K..

Check Sanjay's website maybe?

UPDATE:

Ok, putting the finishing touches before i fire it up!!

The bulbs arrive tomorrow (6th)..

As far as sand goes I'm getting the CaribSea Bahama Oolite Live sand..Im starting with 40lbs.

Live rock..I'm probably getting Tonga Lalo rock. I think it's the best choice as far as the aquascape i plan to do..

UPDATE:

I received the bulbs from Hello Lights.. fast shipping!

Picked up the sand. I went with Pink Samoan sand instead.. Its REALLY nice. I'll post pics as soon as its in the tank.

Went with a Marine Land Visi-therm Stealth heater.. good stuff..

And i seem to go back and forth as far as the rock goes..BUT..i made up my mind and will post pics as soon as it gets here...nice little surprise :D

Great thread so far. I just thought I would introduce myself here. I just did a search for shallow reefs to inspire me for my latest project. I am doing a 240g 96"x24"x16"h inwall sps reef tank. I thought all people would think I am crazy but see I found others that like shallow reefs. Here are a few pics of my new project tank. It will probaly be 6 months to a year before it is fully running.

Looking forward to seeing your tank full.

The tank is sitting on it's side in the pic.
