Squirei sail fin anthias

bullitr

broke but happy
Anyone have experience with them
I know they are deep water and very shy.

Should they be on species only tank or can they be with other species ei ( large Angels ) on large tank?

Thanks

The LFS by me got a pair in back in February, they had them for 225 for the male and 199 for the female. They were beautiful and Im not sure who bought them but they were believed to be the only pair in the state at the time. They were Rabaulichthys Squirei, they looked just like the pictures in the reef builders article on them.

I kept a pair for the better part of a year. FWIW, they're not deepwater and are found in groups above rubble, in a slightly different habitat from many other anthias we keep. No need for a species tank, they mix well with other small anthias.

The good news is they are agressive feeders ( not agressive to other fish just good eaters). Very hardy fish. If you have an open area the male will put on a display for his females - reminds me a bit of the 'look at me' display that male fairies put on for a female.

Bad news is R. squirei are the worst anthias I have kept when it comes to jumping and if there's a small hole they will find it.

A store near me had a bunch of these for very cheap. They did well for me in my previous tank and their flashing behavior was very cool to observe. Love these fish!

Wow
Most lfs here don't carry it
Only quality marine and sea dwelling have them from time to time but they are not cheap at all. They just start to come in few months ago.

Do you have a picture of your harem?

They have been available for years, several LFS near me carry them. But they aren't really that desirable and they sat for awhile. I did buy one and it was very timid and hung out with my bartletts. Nothing special about the fish IMO although it was hardy

Yeah, I don't see them often either. Unfortunately, when I broke down the tank they were in I re-homed them and some of my other fish. If I have the chance for the same price again, I would jump on it.
