My wife, children and I made a day trip to St. Andrews park on Monday, The water and weather was perfect We went snorkeling around the jetties saw all kinds of reef fish, coral bueaties, bicolor angels, juvinile triggers, puffers, anemones, sponges. We really needed to get out and not be rained on it was wonderful.

I am considering taking a scuba course this summer. I wish my wife would take it with me but she's afraid to dive that deep.

Some of the best diving that I have done was out of Dauphin Island and Orange Beach. Once you get off shore, the water clears up real nice and Alabama has one of the best artificial reef programs in the country.

Granted it is not the same as the Keys or further down in the Carribean but it is nicer than most people think.

I think you have misidentified these fish. The Coral Beauty and BiColor angel are found in the Indo-Pacific and Indian Ocean. I've seen the Sergeant Major and Beau Gregory in the northern Gulf.

Ok Shirley386 what fish in the Gulf of Mexico mimics the coral beauty and bicolor angel perfectly. I have gone to several sites and you are correct they are from the indo-pacific and indian ocean. I have not been able to find anything on an angel or other fish that would even be similar to the coral beauty and bicolor that is native to the gulf region, maybe they have been released from aquariums at some point.

Here are some pictures we took at the Jetties. We really need a light strobe. That's why they all look green. There are some pictures of the angels too. I looked up different angels and couldn't identify them either except they are a type of Pygmy.

I love it! You're even closer to the beach too. You could probably go more often. My husband and I dive together. Too bad your wife would be scared, but you could find a group/club through your local dive shop if you ever decided to do it. I can't find the name on that purple and yellow angel, but I think that is the one closest to a bicolor. Just an opposite pattern. Top to bottom instead of left to right coloration. I tried to find it, but no luck. Tomoko will probably know if she reads this thread.

yeh was so joking!!! I got certified in FL and go to swim the tanks out side of Hudson Fl and was soooo cooool. Havent been able to go again since i dont have a partner. Trying to get the GF to get certified.

My wife said she would SCUBA if phelps was there. Scubalauren, What kind of camera did you use for these pics.

My husband got me a regular Olympus digital camera. Nothing fancy. We noticed it had an underwater setting so we went to their website and found out they sale a waterproof casing for the camera. We bought it and it works great! We can also buy a light strobe, but that will have to come later. The deaper we go the less the light spectrum penetrates the water so remember ROY G BIV. We were at the G level. The strobe would illiminate that and you would see what our eyes would see.

Just go buy a disposable camera.... Used one in FL and worked really good. We were at 30feet and got good pics!!
