Staining wood?

you said you put a second coat of poly and stain on ? note that the stain is used to bring out the grain structure of wood it will soak up faster or slower depending on the hardness of the grain strands .that is how you amplify the different grain structures and striations . you should never stain after poly as this will defeat the purpose of both the stain and the poly .if it came out as you liked thats great but i would not suggest stain on top of poly in any case .

no, sorry for the confusion but thanks for looking out. I meant that in one area of the test board I did one coat of each and in a different section I was going to do two of each but I havent gotten around to it......hopefully tomorrow will finally be the day.
 
oh okay i see what your talking about ,your testing on a piece of wood first ? that is certainly the way to go .many times we do the same so the customer gets to make up their mind from a few choices . i wish you well and have some fun with it ,take your time ...................patience is the key .
