start of a new adventure 265gal starphire

I hate the plumbing part of the new reef tank since I'm not very handy with tools and DIY. And the schedule 80 parts anf fitting cost an arms and a leg to purchase. But it does look nicer than the reg shedule 40 stuff.

Lots of nice equipment, it is going to be a nice setup. Just waiting on the tank. I hope Lemar return your tank sometime next week so we can have it up and running prior to thanksgiving. At least you will something to thanks me for :)

I QT new arrivals and when I am satisfied that they are ready to go into the new tank, I open a valve going from my main system to the QT through a float valve. Then I remove a pitcher of water at a time from the QT and allow it to fill with system water. After a couple of days, the livestock is fully acclimated so the only stress is social when they go into the display. And I mitigate that somewhat by releasing after lights out.

jnarowe do you have some pics to explain your QT?

Sure. You can find more pics by following the red house.

Here is a shot of the original QT showing the two float valves, one going to RO/DI, and one to the feed from my main system refugium:

Close up opf the original float valves:

And here's a shot of it in its current configuration, only now I am using a LiterMeter III to dose top-off water:

well I thought I can get water into my new tank this weekend but the hole was a little tight for the hayward bulkhead so ETA will be Wednesday. I will post some more picture after Wed, Thanks Jarhead for coming over and help me out with the plumbing. With his experty I think even my wife can figure out what ballvalve to shut off.....:-)

Some picture of the canopy and sum in the meantime..

Looking great! What I did with the bulkheads was drilled the holes slightly small, and then files them out. It was a PITA, but I did get very exact fits with lots of rubber gasket contact.

haha I almost want to file them out but jarhead stop me since he doesn't want to see me crack the tank...:-).

When Leemar drill the hole they drill from both side of the glass but they didn't file the part when the two drill come together so there is a grove in the middle and just 1mm the bulkhead didn't go through. Anyway I have to wait until Wed. In the meantime I can think about more plumbing.....:-).

Oh Jonathan I have to bug you later about the AC3 programing. I don't have alot of stuff just halide,t5,fan and heater.

Oh, it's glass not, acrylic! Nevermind then.

No sweat on the AC3. Curt at Neptune is extremely customer service oriented, so any question you post in his forum will be answered promptly. I can share with you my code and thought process to give you a head start.

haha I hope that Leemar will deliver my tank by Wed. Frag tank won't be until the 29th. Hey Steve do you know where I can rent those big glass suction cup holder? I think we need those to put the tank on top of the styrofoam cushion.

well since I don't have my tank to work on. I build a flexible holder for my ac3 controller. Here are the parts

1 flexible mic post,a base ,the microphone base connector and some double side tape.

first I put a stripe of double side tape to the microphone holder then I tape that to the back of ac3 controller

then I attach the microphone base with the ac3 to the flexible post and screw in the base to mount.

It took me a lengthy 10 min to complete the project and cost $27....:-)

That is so cool.

thanks Jonathan I'm all dress up but no where to go. So I have sometime to do some little project.

I have the black vinyl tubing that can hide the wire inside and I just tie wrap it with the flexible post. I will install the post to the right side of the stand and drill ad 3/4 hole to run the wire inside the stand and install the PH probe and temp sensor.
