Hey guys---this is my awsome reef buddy--- Harold

welcome to the Tswifty club thread Harold

2frosty4u is one of the most gifted diy guys you could meet
He is the brains and alot of times the brawn behind the design of my total system

His system would blow you away--but he won't post any pics of it

Maybe we can get Rae to work on him.

WHEW!!! I've been reading this all week at work....Finally caught up to you guys (and gals)!

I love these types of threads....They are a great thing for beginners, and even better for people with experience to try out new things.

I have picked up a bit here and there from TJ's thread, and I hope you guys' club isn't too full yet.

Capn, I'm glad you finally got your skimmer...I was a bit worried about 4 pages ago about what you were going to do.

It is funny, as I was reading this (probably 15 pgs in) I was like, "OH, I should reply, I have an idea about that" only to discover that it would be solved within 20 or so posts.

I am working on my build as well, and will be "borrowing" some thoughts here and there from you guys, so I want to thank you in advance.

Here is the link to my build: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1432675

Any advice would be awesome...

And if you guys need anything, don't hesitate to PM me. I have been out of the game for a bit, but it is all coming back slowly!

Ron

wow two knew clubbies in one afternoon --Awesome---

Welcome ron---don't worry we will support a fellow clubbies thread--heading over there now

No, its fine. I imagine how you must have been feeling. I should have fully caught up before posting. ;)

Kar have you read MarounsC's thread--its awesome--and being in the meditteranean I thought you might be interested in it

Yeah, I have actually but I haven't been catching up with all the threads I am subscribed to. Being away messed up my schedule because I didn't take my laptop. I was planning to do a full days catchup yesterday but I was at The Open (has anybody been watching?) I'll soon get back on track.........I hope.

Capn, I'm just curious. In your part of the world do you speak English or FC?

what's FC---a bad word we can't say on here in front of Canadians:D

we try to speak english in Ontario although it is bilingual except on here when we speak reefgeek--just like everyone else;)

TJ---it was Harold acutally that installed the skimmer and was thinking we might need to make a modification on the air intake--to control the air a little better----a ball valve possibly---did you have to make this modication on yours?
IMO the skimmer needs to break in for a couple of days.

The only thing else that was unusual was that both pumps don't have a three prong(ground on them)--just two--thought that was usually for a submersible pump(s)

Hey Capn It wasn't the air flow that I was talking about. I said if It keeps pulsing the way it was that you might want to install a gate valve on the output to better control the flow. The twisty 45 degree pipe in a pipe doesn't seem to do a great job in my opinion.

What is pulsing???

I don't use the 45 degree angle and downward extension on my skimmer.

We just finished:

The air column is surging in it--from where it is in the pictures to much lower--I guess because these have to be brought in
Looks good Scott.

If that is where you do your top offs, I would recommend setting up an ATO unit soon. As fluctuating water levels can mess with the skimmer's performance.

What do you mean the air column is surging in... I'm guessing this is the "pulsing" noise?

No I did not need to modify my pumps at all, and my pumps are also 2 pronged.

One of the advantages of Mesh over a Pinwheel impeller I believe is the amount of air it pulls.

Thats the one thing I always saw boasted by luke33 on the MSX skimmer thread... the scfh number.

Fellas. We got here about an hour ago, spending the night in Atlanta, dumping the kids in the pool, getting energy out!!!

Scott the skimmer looks great. I bet you are feeling great about it.

TJ, I wish I was as good at the pictures on my thread. you rock!

Scott, Wireless air card, verizon. $55.00 a month on my cell phone bill.
Thanks Rae... Don't be modest, we all know you rock at pictures

By the way Scott, can you draw a line on the picture for me, where your water level tops out inside the skimmer body?
