Starting a new tank thread....

Nope, I havent used one yet. I was just looking at them and they looked like nice skimmers and nobody had a single bad thing to say about them....

I might actually be going with a Vertex Alpha 170 now that it looks like they ironed out the microbubble issue they were having. I wouldve thought about going up to the iTech 200 but I dont think it will fit in the sump I have planned for this tank....

The best part about the iTech's (IMO) is that they use Tunze pumps and got the okay from Axel Tunze himself that they will warranty their pumps on his skimmer. I've never had better customer service than what Roger and Tunze provide.

Well, just spent some coin with Jeremy over at Premium Aquatics.....

ATI PM 8x39
(8) T5 bulbs
Vertex Alpha 170 Cone skimmer
Tunze Silence return pump

Man, I REALLY hope all my current stuff sells fast to recoupe these costs.

The tank look great! Excited to see the progress. Let me know how you like the lighting. I am considering the same for my 70 gallon setup.

Ive read nothing but good things about them.....

If youre doing the TECH70, you should use a 6 bulb unit which means you can get in the SunPower light to save even more money... I actually like the look of the sunpower better and wouldve gotten one of them if the fixture came in an 8 bulb size...

Yeah, the MSX has been and is a GREAT skimmer, just waaaay too much for this setup. Its got the regular cup and the extended cup, plus all the mods done to the pumps... I was even thinking about doing the askoll mod to it but never did. :spin2:

Im probably going to end up trading it for some remaining equipment that I need, but if that trade falls through it'll get posted just like the rest of the stuff....

180g RR tank with stand, canopy, 75g sump, and side cabinet
Little Giant 4mdx-sc return pump
(2) 250w LB lighting setups w/ dimmable ballasts
2 Lamp, ARO Model 4LX -VHO Ballast Kit (actinic supplementation)
500w titanium heater with jalli controller

Plus im sure theres a few more odds and ends, like I might end up having to sell my Tunze 6105 streams and buy new 6055's since I cant find a trade, etc....

Plus a little more LR, LS, and some livestock once I get the new tank up and stuff transferred... Im shooting for a fill date on Halloween weekend to make sure everything holds water, and then the following weekend or maybe slowly during the week the transfer will start....

Got a new arrival today....

Nope.... still waiting to see if im going to trade it or sell it outright, and until all the livestock gets sold or transferred, none of the "old" stuff will be sold.

Nope, Vertex Alpha 170 Kone...... I decided to go with this one instead of the I-Tech.... I think the skimming capability of this will be noticibly more than the Itech 100 I was looking at...

I cant even put water in the thing for atleast 2 more weeks... Give me some time to get this thing going. :lmao:

The ATI PM 8x39 is being drop shipped to me. I got the bulbs today, but the unit should be here in a few days.

Im in the process of building the stand but needed to make some changes to go to a 40b for a sump instead of the 30L (youll see in a minute)..

I still need a few odds and ends as well like a smaller heater, plumbing, fuge lighting, paint, etc....

Im most likely going to buy new Tunze 6055's and then sell my 6105's, instead of trying to trade mine for some 6055's...

Premium Aquatics has the Alpha 170 listed as a footprint of 12.5 x 7.75, which I thought would be perfect to use a 30L for a sump. Now that I have the skimmer and am looking at it in the 30L, if I ever wanted to be able to move it or take it out to clean it, theres just no way it is those dimensions.

Id say real world dimensions are 15" x 9.5". I have NO idea where they get that 12.5 number from, they even ay if you cut down the tube you can make it 11.5 which there is just NO way...

Im looking at the site again, and wondering if maybe I was sent an Alpha 200 body, because those dimensions are about spot on...

Got another new package today....

Sooooooo nice....

Acrylic cover (still has the sticker on it obviously).....

Bulbs are in and just started up... theyll get even brighter when I let them actually warm up....
atilight4.jpg

Right now I have the starting first bulb combo as follows:

FRONT
ATI Blue+
UV Actinic White
ATI Blue+
KZ Fiji Purple
ATI Blue+
ATI Actinic 03
UV Actinic White
ATI Blue+
REAR

The dusk/dawn lights are the third and sixth bulbs, so theyre on a Blue+ and the Actinic03. Once I get the Simu-L stick for my profilux though theyll only come on a few minutes before the other bulbs....

Im also thinking I might have to toss another Blue+ in there, but we'll see once its up and lit.
