Starting into SW photography

In the early stages of getting my first salt tank up and running, and it's always fun taking photos along the way. Here are my first fish, a pair of percula clownfish in their quarantine tank. I'm using a Nikon D7k and Nikkor 105mm lens.

Wow great pictures I have the same exact camera and lens. What kind of light was that shot taken at. What was your white balance set at. Did u use a flash. Nice work

Thanks! Was kind of a spur of the moment photo shoot, so didn't set too much stuff up. Lights were a marineland white led strip above the tank, and a sb600 flash turned low, firing through a lightbox on the side of the tank. White balance was set to auto. I'll probably try out a few different backgrounds, see if I can get the colors to pop a bit more.

Yes, very nice pictures. I like the one with him near the top of the water. That has kind of a cool look. I look forward to seeing more. Using off-camera strobes is definitely the way to go for fish. It can take a little prep work, but it certainly pays dividends.

When I see shots like these from Nikon users I sometimes wonder if being in the Canon boat is better... superb IQ! Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks all! My display tank is still cycling, so will be a while before I have some interesting things to shoot in there. Can't wait to try shooting corals!

Wow! Very nice. Like Island Crow I dig the one with the surface water cross section... Cool effect. Amazing sharpness!
