A few pieces to work with.

I wish I had a workbench like that! You can take a break from the saltwater pool to play some pool.

Tom, the TBRC meeting is here in March. I plumbed the sump and have it half full of water. I assembled 6 external dursos for "The Silent and Failsafe Overflow System ". http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1310585&highlight=Failsafe+Overflow+System
I cut 20' of 2" pvc into 3" lengths. They will stand up on the bottom supporting eggcrate, all covered in sand. That will keep the rock from sinking into the sand. I have 8 more 10' pieces to cut. I'll have it pumping fresh water this weekend.

Take a little time off for Christmas, Mike. Whoops - a little too late for that! ;) You don't have to get it all done at once, ya know. BTW - it all looks absolutely first class!

My birthday is on xmas and I just found this thread. Today is ending on a great note! Anyone who didn't catch the 390 build get ready for some inspirado. (can't wait for the rest of the build)

Tom, This was our first Christmas without any kids around, and Diane has been stuck to the couch or bed since last Monday due to foot surgery. She'll be back on her feet in early January. So I spent the whole day playing with the tank!!!

SMOOTHIE, Thanks for kind words. I hope this one turns out good. So far I can tell it's going to be easier to maintain. I really like being able to walk all the way around the back of the tank with plenty of room. I'm keeping that thought in mind as I plumb the tank and set up the equipment.

Well, here's my New Year's wish for a speedy recovery. :)

A little more work done today.

Overflow boxes installed. I have the same color blue acrylic sheets to put on the outside of the back and both ends so the boxes won't be so obvious.

The beginning of my Bean Animal Silent and Failsafe Overflow System.

An idea from Glass Reef, thanks Tom, that I adapted. The three drain pipes and one return pipe fit into the half circle cutouts and there is a 2.5" wide strip with matching cutouts that attaches with screws over the pipes once installed. It keeps the pipes secure in case of a wild elbow, and allows removal for whatever reason that comes up.

I cut nine 10' sticks of 2" pvc into 3" lengths. They will stand up on the bottom of the tank and a layer of eggcrate will be on top of the pvc. Then I will fill/cover that pvc/eggcrate structure with sand. I always use a DSB, but I don't want the rock sinking into the stand.

It's an honor to have been mentioned in your thread, Sir. :D Those overflows really look good. I'm kinda wishin' I had chosen dark blue acrylic instead of black - it looks great!

How long did it take you to cut all those rings? Fascinating idea - I'll be watching that closely. Looks like it may be a way to keep the sand from moving all over.

I'm curious. Why did you put two doors in? It sems like one door would have given you access to everything and would have also let you make more use of the space behind the tank.

Setup looks great.

Tom, I have the rip fence on my table saw set at 3", so each cut is easy and exact. It takes about 10 minutes for each pipe to cut and clean. I looked at the choices of colors for acrylic, and the blue seemed to be the "brightest".

Thanks Adam, Put next Saturday afternoon on the schedule.

Slartibartfast, One door would have provided more space, but I'm building a walkway in 3 pieces to access the tank without a ladder. With one door, I would have to step up on the walkway behind the tank to get to the other side. I'm not getting any younger, and my back isn't getting any better, so I went with the ease of access provided by two doors.
