STILL LIKE YOUR-Gyre XF150 ???

I've cleaned mine. It wasnt bad at l imo. I found it easier and less likely to screw up than taking the mp40 wetside completely apart.

To me it was no worse than pulling out an entire skimmer and breaking it down to clean it. Really, way less frustration than that. Pop the main frame off the ends of the flow guides then slide the guides and blades off the rods.

The biggest thing I suggest is not doing it over an open flowing drain in case you drop the grommets or o-rings. Oh and be careful with a tight grip and slipping because I gave myself one hell of a nasty cut on the plastic of the guide and fan trying to slide my fingers cleaning and pulling them off.

That's great news.

I have a long time friend that owns a local store that was given a prototype for a month, then they sent a production model, and they Love it !

The ramp up to higher power was a tiny,...noisy, but far less that their MP-60.

Through a special deal from the factory, I can get one for less than the map price, so I ordered one. Woo-Hoo ! lol :bounce2::fish1:

He told me that the company is working on software for the apex and a couple of others for control and,..... a night mode, but does not know when they'll be in production. He should also have the 130 model next week.

If you hang in there, he will be sent a prototype and will let me know when they have it installed, then I'll let you guys know how if fairs out. asap.

I have no idea how long it will take me to set up our 125g, but when I have it installed I'll report back also.

LIKE JASON HAS, LETS SEE SOME PHOTO'S OF YOUR GYRE, IN YOUR TANK.

Where you have yours placed, what setting you've found that best movement for your rock work and corals.

I would assume,.....the 130.
I think the 150 is too large, even on the lowest setting. It's rated between 50-800 gallons.

Look over the information I pasted, but here's a little info.

150 Model-

•Max Flow 5000gph

•50watts

•50-800+ gallons
-------------------

130 Model-

Max Flow 2300gph
- 35~8 watts
- Suitable for tanks ranging 25 - 100+ gallons

I asked if Maxspect (CoralVue) if they would do a "Group Buy",and said,..... no way. He was real close to being rude !
Actually,.... he was.

I opted for the Gyre 150 (over the smaller 130) for my 30"x30" 93g cube. Keeping all softies for now.

I just set mine up yesterday...3-4" down on middle of back wall positioned horizontally.

I'm running it at 10-20% and it's super quiet. The flow is amazing. I've tried it up to 40% and that was too much.

My theory was I'd rather run the 150 at lower speeds than push the 130 and risk more noise.

More to follow as I play around with settings and locations...

This video is funny. For me, same tank (peninsula), the magnet was too large (long) to fit in my overflow. The flow on this thing was nice, while is lasted.

Pump broke (only worked in standard mode at very high speed (over 60%) or it would red light. I did the cleaning, blah blah, no thanks. Shouldn't have to clean the thing in first month of use.

Sent back to MD and got another MP40. Much happier.

Did MD charge you a 25% restocking fee since it was used?

No. the product was defective. I simply returned a broken product. CoralVue wanted me to go through them, but all that would have done is got me out of my return window with MD.

I felt if a pump broke within 30 days, I'm not interested in repairing or replacing it, I'm moving on.

wow tough words, but hope youre not rite about moving on.
The new mounts seem to be great.. anyone used it ? :)

yes tough words for sure. but we all have been there before, you hope things get tested before they get sent to the market or even out of the factory. I know things get missed or overlooked. I just think for the money this hobby requires SOME people don't want to take chances. there are many options in the water movement market, some more proven than others and some more expensive than others. If we are talking some amount of money, then some mindsets are take the proven track record. I have done it myself in the past. I just got some LEDs for my tank and two of the drivers are bad and the effort required to prove they are bad is frustrating to me. I borrowed the multi reader from a friend so i don't own one to take pictures of the readings and of me doing the adjustments the right way. so instead of fighting that, i am considering just sending the whole thing back and going back to my old MH set up and adding some T5 to it. i got something in the mail that was defective and it sort of puts a bad taste in peoples mouth. some are more patient than others about it tho, so harsh words, yes. meaningful words, yes.

corey

Totally agree, time is money and I hate it wen companies waste mine.
Either by shoddy products or by making us prove and prove that we didnt BREAK their products? Come on, what would be the point in lying about this?
YES if you drop a whole lamp into aquarium, yes if you never cleaned or took care of it, but when NEW products (yes 2 years + is really new) break or dont work as promised toss it back for sure.

Moneywise, these should really not be this expensive.. i think you pay premium for the fact its new etc. and that you only need "one" so lets up the price..

But the only realy competition is Ecotech, and honestly they are priced at double the gyre in europe anyway, plus the fact they are not 100% silent. This is also a matter of perspective, but in europe they DONT pass as quiet, but simply as "innovative".

Sorry if its OT, this is an unique product for sure, hope it gets even better.

I was an early adopter of the Gyre however I sold my gyre on 1/5/15 and last night I received a text from buyer stating he needed receipt. Appears the motor won't turn.

Glad I went back to the MP!

I would love to hear feedback from those that had since November. I'm reading more and more about broken parts, plastic wearing out, motors, etc.
