today i ent to turn on the light in my tank and noticed a slug about inch and half long cruising my rock. as soon as light came on hewent inside a crevice. he was dark green in color and had a shield shaped head but nothing else really to identify .

Any clues to who my mysterious guest is?

If it looked like a cross between a snail and a slug its probably a stomatella. They come out at night and hide at any sign of light. They are a great thing.

didnt look anything like that .. best i can describe it was it was like dark green slug like you see outide but in the tank. was pretty good size and moved pretty quickly out of sight when i put light on. no frills nothing protrudeing from its body . cant find anything that looks like it so far everything has patterns or frills

Good call TikiDan, I was going to post that URL. David & Liz I would book mark that website. It's not a scientific website or anything like that, but he has a good amount of photos of things we commonly find hitchhiking around in our tanks. I'll PM you another website where you can have an invertebrate taxonomist give you a rough ID if you ever get a picture. From that rough of a description it will be trouble getting help. Do you have any type of digital camera?

I haven't see the object in question but I don't think so.They are mostly black and they don't look anything like a slug. They don't go away when the lights come up and they are not fast by any means.

good catch al i was going to say .. i didnt see what he was talking about... but i like the site.. thanks.

yeah we have a digital camera just waiting to see him again. plus need to take som more pics of our 90 and 24. gal.

the thing in the tank is like a slug you would see out side... it is dark green like algae and is completely smooth with no ridges or tenticles or anything that i could tell.

Al and TikiDan, depending on the size of your browser, your video cards graphics settings, and the size of your screen, what is at the top right will change. I saw the margarita snail first when I followed the link as well then I hit "Restore down"(opposite of maximize near the top right of my browser) and something different was at the top right. Doesn't matter what we are looking at specifically, but David and or Liz can look through that page and see if they can find something similar.

I agree that its stomatella, I don't have any, but I hear they are great to have in the tank.

Liz and David,
I had lots of stomatella in your tank. I got them from Mary who used to be a DRC club member.
