Stream putting electric charge into my tank.

Ok I put the 6080 in my tank but when its on and I put my hand it the tank I get shocked. When the pump is off ther is no charge. What gives?

Are you serious? Is the cord cut or damaged in any way? I have never once heard of this. If this is true I will get you a new one but I have not ever heard of stray voltage from a Tunze pump.

A power strip should make no difference, but do make sure the cord isn't contacting a salty light fixture or conducting in electricity from another source, also use a volt meter and not your fingers to test for voltage. Also thoroughly check that no cuts are present on the cord.

SunnyX if you are a legitimate customer we will take this up by PM. I am getting the feeling this is a troll post, I checked with Champion and in the past month only 3 6080 Streams have been sold to retail and not one went to Michigan.

OK, I did some research and there is a possibility that a pump that is grounded like the Stream will complete the circuit for stray voltage from a non grounded appliance. Can you check this on another circuit in a bucket- perhaps where you mix your saltwater.

Yes, but freshwater doesn't conduct as well as salt so if it is a minor charge it may be undetectable. The main thing is to have it in a container that has no other electric appliances in it and that the outlet definitely does not have a ground/hot reversal.

Well I put it in a plastic rubbermaid bucket full of fresh water one a different circut on the other side of the house. I feel no shock now. But when I put it back in my tank there is a shock even with everything in my tank off(except lights)

OK, it sounds as if you have some stray voltage from one of two sources your lighting or you have what is called a hot/ground reversal on that outlet or a similar short within the power strip. You can check your outlets with a $5 outlet tester from HD or Lowes. As for the lighting, if you tell me what kind of lights you use I could be more help. Basically, something in your tank is leaking current and because the pump is grounded it is carrying the current away and completing the circuit.

BTW- I am very sorry for the Troll post comment earlier. I read in the past thread you had contacted Champion and the first thing I did was check all of our batch info and product numbers and call the delaers to see who had what. This was a "shocking" post as I have never seen a Tunze pump shock anyone even in pretty bad shape, they have several safety systems to cut themselves off if they are flawed or tampered with.

I have 2x250watt Metal Halides run on Electronic ballasts from Hellolights.com
I also have 2x110 VHO's running also on an electronic ballast from hellolights.com
