Streamer on clownfish tail?

About a month ago I noticed that my female Spotcinctus clown was growing a "streamer" from her tail. It appears to be an extension of a ray near the top of the caudal fin. It reached about 1/2" in length but appears to be shorter now (from breaking off I assume).
Tonight my wife noticed that the male is developing the same thing on his tail.

So, has anyone else ever seen this on their clowns?

Here is a pic of the male. You can see the elongated part at the top of the tail fin. Getting a pic of the female is more difficult because 1) the majority of the streamer has snapped off, and 2) her streamer is translucent rather than white and doesn't show as easily in the pics
