Stylophora is pale on underside

I just realized I accidentally put a thumbs down on the last response. Not sure if that does anything but I'm really sorry about that. If anything your response deserved 5 thumbs up lol

I was just searching around and it looks like this can be caused by alk swings or low alkalinity. My alkalinity has been stable at 8 though which I have heard is a pretty good level for sps.

Stylo's can grow quite well under LEDs only.

Two frags I started with 20 months ago:

I have 2 Kessil a360's and thats all. Cheers, Tim

Sweet! What kind of flow is yours in? Mine is 3 inches under a 850gph koralia that's angled up with a 425 gph return pointing down into the ph's flow to disperse it. I'm worried it might be too much.

The white on the monti cap is spreading. I checked for nudi's and didn't see any. I moved it into a higher flow area to see if it changes.

What's up guys, so I decided to take a dive into the world of sps a few days ago. I got 2 monti caps, a stylo, and a stellata montipora. Everything is looking great but I noticed the stylos polyps are clearish on the underside but they are also extended more than the rest. The stellata montis polyps are bright green on one side and clearish on the other. Are they still adjusting to my tank or is there something I can do to correct this?
Tank specs
Temp: 76-78
Salinity: 1.026
Cal: 420
Alk:8
Mag:1270
Ph:8-8.1
The stylo is in high flow 12 inches below the surface and the monti is in med flow and 12 inches below. 1 full spectrum 165 w led with actinics and 2 165w actinic leds blackboxes about 10 inches from the surface. I have the full spectrum one up to about 10% while everything else is on the lowest setting.

Since you got the frag a few days ago I would not be to concerned about the bottom being white. I suspect the frag was taken from the bottom of the parent colony. Any dense growing SPS, like a stylo, will have some lighter colored and or white areas, especially at the bottom and near the core, no matter the lighting system. If it has some color and polyp extension after a few days you are in good shape. Do not panic or start making big changes. I have a purple stylo about the size of a softball. The core and undersides, especially the bottom most part, are lighter that the rest. If you like LEDs stick with them, they work just fine.

Any thoughts on what's happening? You can see the green monticap behind it looks fine. They are each getting somewhat heavy flow.

Looks like some tissue necrosis. Could be for any number of reasons. But the jist is that it doesn't like SOMETHING going on.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem like it is getting worse but it may have just slowed down. I'm going to keep an eye on it. I have checked for nudi's but at the same time I have never had them, so I'm not quite sure how big or how easy they are to see. In the beginning, the edge looked kind of grayish and maybe a bit fuzzy. Now it is just white there the tissue died.

I just got home from work and it looks like the tissue has already started to regrow over the skeleton. Swweeet. I guess it likes the higher flow

Sorry, just noticed this thread again. Anyway...my stilo is in the middle of the tank and only gets moderate to light flows. I suspect if its blasted, the polyps will not extend to the same degree. They are bigger polyps than you see on most acro's for instance, which like a high flow rate.

Here's a pic of my two yr old mixed reef, stylo being in the middle:

Also, if you are interested, here's a link to my thread about how my tank is run with no sump, no bells and whistles, no filtration of any kind other than a protein skimmer and only using Kessils:
