sudden ICH on my not new tang.

Im sure you all remember me talking just last week about my hippo tang getting aggressive towards me. well today about to go do my water change and i notice my tang has all these little pimple like things with little white spots. Pretty positive its ICH. I have had no new fish additions in years. The tang is about 5 yrs old. Fat and healthy, great color, still eats like a normal pig. Something has got him stressed, i know he is getting big but i wouldn't think he would be that stressed all of a sudden from space concerns. I have not even been in the tank recently to **** him off.

Ive treated(or not treated) ich once when i first got him like most tangs they come in with ich usually. Back then i just crushed up some garlic cloves and soaked the fish food in the juices. Fed to everyone. Ich was gone and i have never seen it in my tank since until now.

What do you all think? is he that stressed from the confined space. About 6.5 inches long ,1 inch thick, In a 90. Pretty open scape with 2 islands allowing for a figure 8 type swim pattern that he does utilize.

Should i treat, catch, and find a new home? That will be a sad:( day.

*it doesn't sound like Crypto
*it does sound as though this fish is highly stressed
*a larger aquarium just might be the "cure"

can you post a pic showing Dori's acne?

lights just went off as i was taking the pic, but i will def get one up tomorrow. I did not notice it at all yesterday, She acted normal today. Maybe i should drip some proactive into the sump.

Its not like she is changing colors(pale) and darting around all the time, or the opposite not moving or hiding. She exhibits normal calm behavior and gets excited for food. Only time she is VISIBLY ticked is when i am in the tank to long.

still i don't think my planned up grade will even be large enough to provide her long term success. I plan for something 72"x18x26 next winter.

Im still trying to get a pic that is not blurry and showed off the spots. Dori has never liked the camera pointed at her. Weird thing is the spots are almost gone this morning. No other fish contracted whatever it was.

After several years without ich in the tank or new additions , I think crytocaryon is unlikely . Any other symptoms?
FWIW, I have an 8 yr old Hippo in a 90, purchased when my son and I started the hobby.. Does so well there , I never moved it. Plenty of swim room in front and back of the stack and swim ways through the rock seem to keep it happy. It's also part of a 600 g system ,so water is contiually changed over. Generally, they need a bigger tank.

funny when i got him, i think i ran into you at salt water paradise and we chatted about them for a few min.

This is from the other day when it was at it's worst. Today it is almost gone no protruding spots just little discolored marks where they were.

Hmm his appetite has really increased lately i am thinking i need to be feeding him more algae sheets. Am i correct that when they are young they consume more meat and as they grow to adult they start to consume more algae.

It's the other way around ;Paracanturus Heppatus become more carnivorous as they age and will even attack some corals. Mine loved ti graze open brains when
I kept them in that tank. In any case their primary diet is zooplankton, ie meaty foods What are you feeding it? I feed brine, mysis, bloodworm, krill, cyclopeeze a few Prime reef flakes, spirulina and some nori . The krill in small chunks is a hit as the Hippo seems to enjoy having something larger than a mysis to chomp on. I only feed krill every other day. The Hippo shows no interest in the nori. The pruple tang( Zebrasomma xanthurum) devours it.

Don't know. Doesn't look like ich . Could be but the fish would be lethargic, breathe hard and lack appetite typically. Other fish would likely show symptoms too.

There is a hypothesis that after 11 months or so a single strain of ich will expire if it only produces asexually. That was observed in one and only one study which others refute. An untreated fish exsposed to cryptocaryon irritans can develop partial immunity and live for a long time with unobservable ich in the gills nostrils and mouth while supporting ich survival in a tank. How long is unknown.

Oh ok, that explains why she really never cares for algae sheets. She will graze the back wall a little. Most if not all the time i feed nori or other algae it just falls apart before anyone even eats it.

My fish are
spawning pair of captive bred o.clowns both 5+yrs old.
Sixline wrasse 5+yrs old,
bartletts anthias 2yrs old,
hippo tang.

I feed spectrum pellets 3 times a day. Mysis, and cyclopeeze every other. lots of micro fauna. She hit a growth spurt or something all the fish kind of did. I need to adjust my feeding routine, and what i am feeding. Might be time to ditch the pellets as a main staple.

Doesn't sound like any of those fish would stress it. Mine lives with a pryamid butterfly, a purple tang, a pair of tomato clowns one of which is a huge female and a tri bar damsel. All are 5 to eight years old. Doesn't like it when I rearrnge the rock work at all. Doesn't like new corals and beats them up moving them aside as does my female clown and damsel. They just like things left alone at this stage.
