Suggestions for Acrylic Magnet Cleaner?

Just watch out that you don't get any debris stuck between the Magnet and tank prior to scrubbing or else YOU WILL get scratches... speaking from experience...

Would things like debris and calcueus (sp?) stuff building in between glass/acryic and the pat that could scrach the veiwing surface. I've never had sucess using magnetic cleaning device, despite the extra care I had to look out for sand trapped in between when the magnet fell down to the bottom and catch some sand.

Mostly just watch out for sand debris... mine scratch the hell out of my tank.. had to buy a pentair scratch remover but have not used it yet..

So I guess the float types are the ones to buy since it will float to the top when disengaged, as opposite to the traditional ones which fall to the bottom and catch sand grains.

One more question, by strong magnet, do you guys mean you will have to exert a lot more force to push and pull the thing across the tank. must be quite of a areobic work out after that.

I second the Magnavore. You get what you pay for. The stronger the magnet the better it cleans. It pulls easy it just works better than the cheaper models. You won't ever be sorry you paid a little more.

Mighty Magnets are pretty overlooked. They are very powerfull and they float. I think they are stronger than the algae free magnets. Magnavores don't float. Mag floats are terrible. You definately get what you pay for. Magnavore does have a nice cheap mini one though. Again it doesn't float but it is pretty strong.

Forgot to mention the extras that Mighty Magnets have. They have an algae cutter pad that goes over the magnet. It is safe for acrylic and it will remove most coraline. The algae scraper is a soft triangle blade that has velcro on one side. It removes the most stuborn coraline. If anyone wants to see one of these in action let me know and you can stop by my place. I have the MMF2 and the MMF5. Most people don't need anything bigger than the MMF2. I have a hard time moving the MMF5 across the front of my 210 gal glass tank. It is so powerful.

Yes that is the company I was talking about. I would love to see the floating Magnavores. They are great magnets other than the fact that they didn't float. They also seem to be the ones that can do the most harm if they snap together on your fingers. They have harder and sharper corners than any of the others. This sounds stupid but I gave myself a third nipple once by trying to seperate a set that was stuck together. I was holding them close to my chest while pulling and they snapped together on me. OUCH!!

yikes.. makes you think twice about getting a magnavore in that case, lol.

in my experience, magnetic cleaners like that are pretty dangerous. make sure you rinse it off before throwing it in.

I'm all for the kent pro scraper, move it very carefully, and you only need 1 pass.

I just wanted to say that I ordered the Mighty Magnets MMF-2 and received it today. It has got to be one of the best aquarium purchases I have ever made. I have not been able to get in my aquarium to scrub algae for over a month due to a back injury. All I have been using is the Mag-Float. There was a big build-up of tough to get off algae. The Mighty Magnet gets it off in just a couple of swipes. It is great. I recommend these magnets highly!
