Sump help

My corals aren’t looking too great this morning. Not sure if they are adjusting to the change or? I tested the water and everything is where is should be….

Brining the sump online probably added more flow compared to the hang-on filter you had. How long did you mix the additional water before adding the system? Assuming by saying you tested, that includes temperature?

I didn’t add additional water, just topped it off. The temp is 78. Maybe I’m misunderstanding the question. Like I said, I’m brand new to sumps

Both the power head and return jet are right next to each other. Could it be too much flow? The anemone seems fine as well the ricordeas, but the hammer, and bubble look like they’re hating life right now. Clowns and peppermint shrimp are fine as well.

Actually, just tested the PH and it’s a little on the low side. I’m assuming the skimmer was the culprit? I don’t remember this hobby being this stressful 20 years ago! 😩

I’ll try to word this better than my last attempt😀. Your tank was full of water before you put the sump online. When you added the sump, it was initially empty, correct? And you had to add saltwater to make the water level in the sump the correct level, right?

Flow could be the issue. Especially since it’s the hammer and bubble that aren’t happy.

Not likely the skimmer causing a bit low pH. Everything should be fine, just take it slow😉

Correct. I just topped it off with RO water. Not sure what the issue is but everything is closed up and looks awful. The fish seem fine

Test your salinity ASAP!!! You probably lowered your salinity just adding RO. With the sump you increased the water volume, so you should have added salt water. I’m sorry, should have mentioned that.

Now, you DO NOT want to increase salinity fast, that’s worse than dropping it fast. Post what your current salinity is here and we’ll walk you through getting it back to where it needs to be.

One more thing, don’t panic. I recently had my fuge overflow and my topoff dropped my salinity to 1.020. Stuff looked like crap, but I took my time brining it back up and everything recovered.

Salinity is 1.025. It was RO water with salt already mixed in

And yes, this hobby has a lot of ups and downs. Many years ago, I filled a 30 gallon trash can with Acro skeletons due to a tripped circuit breaker. Many of those corals I had grown from frags…one colony was larger than a basketball. But, to quote Chief Dan George in The Outlaw Josey Wales, we, “endeavor to persevere.”

I never experienced anything like this with my first tank. Everything went smoothly. I guess I got lucky because this giving me anxiety 🥴
