Sunset Monti?

mine was the exact oppisit, The top part of it facing the most light (had it directly under the bulb) was a muted oragne, with light green polyps while the sides that were slighty shadded are a deep orange with bright green polpys.. go figure.

I hope you find out what the deal is. I really like how everyone is being respectful about the whole thing, especially if it is an honest mistake. I would be bummed if I thought I was getitng one thing and it didn't color up over time to be even close...I missed the whole part about a "couple months". Under those circumstances I would have to say it may be a mistake coral.

I have one similar to yours. I was told it by who I got it from they thought it was a knock off sunset. Hard to tell for sure but it is not as orange as the sure sunsets. Still pretty nice I think.

First I want to say is that I got this frag as a freebie. I didn't pay anything for it.

Second, he really thought it was the real deal when he got it through trading. He now realizes that it's not, and he is contacting the the source.

Honest mistake, but at least it's clear now that it's not the real Sunset.

Glad to see you got that figured out. Despite not being the real deal it is still pretty and you can't beat the price :).

Wow this is great information for us newbies. When you get to the point that you're spending that kind of money, it's a lesson to us all to know our sources. It's also nice to know that there are some very honest vendors out there that are willing to back their products.

my sunset isn't quite as bright of an orange...is it possible mine isn't the real deal. It's orange with very bright green polps...just not as bright as some of these

What lighting do you have it under, placement in the tank?

I also run zeo and the sunset monti is one of those corals in my tank that positively glows with the zeo supplements, some corals respond to the zeo and others don't as much.

I have it under 250w SE 14k. I also feed oyster eggs every other day, I don't know much about zeo...

I placed mine way too low (28"):( . The polyps are a nice bright green, but the base is only burnt orange. Not like Alicia's.

I thought I saw some nice ones, encrusted to plugs for about $100 on frags.org - personally I think its worth it. It is a real stunning coral - mine looks just like Alicia's - I got it from Sang since the Northern Cali folks got the goods. ;) I'm keeping great color under Phoenix bulbs/HQI and some T5 on the bottom of my tank.

I have mine about 3/4 of the way up in the tank with good flow around it. It is probably 12" under the MH, I have the 250w 14k phoenix as well.

Justin, I'd move it up higher to see if it colors up.

I can try to move it higher..I'll have to put a rock under it so I can...lol.

it's like a burnt orange like Unarce said, I'll post a pic when my wife gets home with the camera

Honestly though, Clint has some amazing stuff and a great price. If you notice on Tyree site, Clint name is on almost all the goodies. Makes it nice to know what you are getting when you buy from Clint.

Yup, Clint gets the goodies early on in the Tyree process. They grow well for him and his tank is sweet to see in person, luckily he is local to me so I get to enjoy it in person once in a while. I think he is getting ready to move to another state one of these days so my "local" days are numbered. His Sunset is really gorgeous, although I have not seen it in quite a while but earlier this year it was sweet, he has great encrusting montis.

well I took a pic of mine, It get brighter orange than this...it's still a little browned from a move less than a month ago. But I figure maybe you could tell by the growth pattern if it's a real sunset or not...check it out
