I just bought a brand new Super Reef Octopus 2000 Internal
with Bubble Blaster HY2000 pump, the pump is noisy and humming loudly, does anybody knows a way to make it quite? I bought this one for the feadback that it's noiseless....so far my Eheim 1260 pump way much quitter than this BB hy2000. will the noise imoroves when the Skimmer start skimming?
Thanks.

First question, are you testing it in saltwater? I've found that my SRO 3000 made a lot of noise in freshwater.

Is the noise a pump hum or water from the outlet? I placed my skimmer on a silicone hot pad to keep from transferring vibrations into the sump. If the physics are right the sump will covert the vibrations into a loud sound.

FYI: Eheim is one of the quietest pumps around.

yes the noise from the pump & for now I am testing it in the fresh water...do you think it really matters, fresh or salt? and I also tried the vibration absorbar pads every where it did not make any diffrence.

Yes the added density of saltwater makes a huge difference, I was shocked at how much. Just listen to the difference in sound between a powerhead in a bucket of fresh vs a bucket of saltwater.

oh I see, will I hope this is the case...I still wish that we have a Skimmers with Eheim pumps...I really in love with this powerfull pump...

Make sure that the pump is fitted properly into the skimmer body. Mine is ordinarily quiet, but I get some noise if the pump is not fitted snugly and squarely into the skimmer.

What many skimmers are run by Eheim pumps? They just dont compare well to skimmer pumps out today. Plus the cost wayy too much.

sure I will re check it again and I'll make sure it's fitted properly, maybe this will help. Thanks

All pumps are noisy when they first start running. I have the same skimmer and it had a good hum to it for about one month and now it is extremely quiet, it cannot be heard out of the stand. Even Tunze pumps, which are dead silent, will make noise for a couple weeks as they break in. Run the whole skimmer in saltwater, skimmers always need breaking in for both the pump and body of the skimmer.

X2. Good info -

great news :-) we will count on that....

My pumps on my SRO 1000 & 2000 were noisy at first. Old trick is to put silicone grease on the impeller magnet to speed up the break in.

Just take the impeller out, and put a "thin" coat of silicone grease on the coated magnetic portion of it, and reinstall. The impeller is sealed within the body with a rubber o ring. You will see that once you remove the volute housing.

should I wait until I put the saltwater in or can I do it while I'm running fresh water?

If you are running this is freshwater it will be noisy. A week in saltwater will make a huge difference. There is no need in running it in freshwater, just wipe it down with vinegar to help remove mfg oils, rinse in water and put in tank and fire it up. A FW bath alone will take a long time to remove those oils but vinegar is almost instant.

Excellent idea on the silicone pad. I gotta get another one for my skimmer. Gotta do something more with my Eheim thought since it's already on a pad and the vibration transfer does make everything louder. Maybe use a spa flex on the return to the main pipes feeding to the tank?
