Pretty much!

He was a vegan that refused to ever wear any animal products (leather, fur, teeth, etc.)... He had a vinal wardrobe.

He was also very outspoken about the use of drugs & alcohol and claimed to have never touched either one, which made his autopsy report rather interesting read to say the least. ;)

THOU DOTH PROTESTETH TOO MUCH!!!123

PS: I'm on my way out to Lowe's right now, so if you need me to get anything else, call me ASAP!

Pretty funny. :)

Nope, my wardrobe consists mostly of rubber. :) Foam rubber. :)

In before the Lochness Monster..? Nessi is a myth! :sad2:

In before the Leprechauns..? They're too busy searhing for their pot! :smokin:

In before the Lemmings..? Too late, they arrived on pg-2! :mtool:

In before the Lebanese..? This isn't a porn site, besides, it's not like there's anything wrong with that!

Yikes, you're advocating the killing of rubber trees... FOAM RUBBER TREES even!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111 :D

Heh. :) "Treekiller." My new nickname. :)

I think neoprene is actually a synthetic, isn't it? :)

You in ATL yet? :D The new guy I'm bringing with us is Anton... He's our new webmaster. He'll be armed with a camera pretty much the entire time. :)

I'll get him to post some photos of the Whale Sharks there at the GA Aquarium here on this thread, so that we stay on topic. :)

I'm planning to hit Divers Supply around 3:30, which should put me back into Atlanta and at the hotel by 6:00 at the latest.

I'm really wanting to get lot's of BEFORE and AFTER pics this time for us both to use, which is why I bought the underwater Vivitar this week. It shoots stills and video.

Drive safe, and I'll see you guys tomorrow night! :)

Jay has a point, and I respect that, but hunting and fishing is part of many communities heritage, its a tradition. I've progressed past some of the old school ways of harvesting anything and everything. All the fish I caught this year were released, and I've been extremely selective in deer hunting. Venison is a very healthy food and around here two deer can give you enough meat to last most of the year. In Nebraska deer hunters are a tool for controlling the population. Without the thousand of deer harvested many might end up in someones windshield.

I do find it funny though that a marine biology major would consider freezing the most humane way to euthanize. The first thing the IACUC says is freezing is never an option. Formalin is the standard method for euthanasia, but for human consumption instant decapitation should be used.

*Shudder*

Wouldn't the most humane thing to do be to leave the fish be? If you want interaction, why not get in the water with the fish and interact?

You'll find that they act a lot different - when they're alive. :)

If you're hungry, I'll mail you some Fritos or something. :)

I'm sure that serial killers don't think twice about chopping people up into little pieces, either. That still doesn't make it right.

...And while I understand that y'all feel that a HUMAN life is totally different from any other animal's life, I don't.

To me, killing is just wrong, and I avoid it if at all possible, regardless of the "level" of life that is involved. I feel bad when I run over a squirrel, would rather catch the bug and put it outside than squish it, and avoid shooting things or suffocating fish in the icebox... Regardless of where their place is on the food chain.

What I see in most fishermen and hunters isn't a "need" for food - what I see is a "desire" to kill something. Makes them feel macho. I mean, what other rationale is there in spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a boat and tackle and fuel and countless hours of hard, nasty work to catch something that can be purchased at your local fish store for a few dollars a pound?

It's the "thrill of the chase." The thrill of killing something.

Personally, I don't find any pleasure in chasing something ("stalking") and killing it. I believe I've formed this opinion based on my interaction with the creatures as I dive underwater.

Similarly, dog-owners can't fathom eating dog for dinner. I just can't understand why anyone would ever love to fish, especially after spending so much time and effort (and money) to keep their own fish alive - as I assume the posters of this forum do.

As I said before, I hope that the person who enjoyed the interaction with the Whale Shark decided to stop killing fish. I hope the experience affected him that way.

...Now, how that hope would offend someone, I have no idea. :)

Do you kill plants? Its a life. How about catch and release. Poor fishes feel all that pain just to make some rich guy happy. A few dollars for fish. Give me a break. I'm on the coast and fresh tuna, mahi, and wahoo is all over $12lb.

Next time you run over a squirrel bmail me for a good recipe. You might not feel as bad if its not going to waste.:fun4:

Lol... :)

You originally from WEST Virginia? :)

Sorry, just kidding. :)

$12 doesn't get most fishing boats off the dock. There is positively no logic behind, "We're going fishing so we can eat." Not so long as fish is less than $100/lb.

A full day charter for an offshore fishing boat costs around $1500. Have your own boat, and you've got to factor in the cost of the boat, dockage, maintenance and everything else... All so you can have the privilege of sitting around in the sun for hours on a rocking boat with a line in the water, drinking beer and betting who's going to throw up next.

...All for what - a good day is a dozen fish?

You could have bought that for less than $50. Okay, $100 if they're really big. And you could probably get the market to clean it for you. :)

It's all about the hunt and the kill... So I just don't relate. Wouldn't it be cheaper to set bird or squirrel traps in your yard and go bludgeon them with a carpenter's hammer every time you catch one? Why not go sit on an anthill with a magnifying glass?

Sorry, I just don't get it. Hope I never do. :)

SeaJay -- Call me when you see this message!!!

I'm hitting the road right now, but after talking yesterday about the project and thinking more about it, I have a phenomenal idea that I want to run by you... I also have pictures that I'm bringing of one of my projects to fully support the concept of what I'm talking about. It will make the project much simpler, save on product, and provide a superior end result. ;)

Haha Jay, after seeing you handle that argument you're my hero. xD

Love the whale shark pictures, but I"d be afraid to get in the water with it. I'm barely five foot, I think it would eat me by accident. lol

Thanks, Fretfreak! :)

I dunno if I actually convinced anyone (sigh), but at least the idea of "don't kill just 'cause you can" is out there.

Maybe they'd understand if they were, just once, not at the TOP of the food chain. I mean, even if they were just #2 - like maybe if they were swimming in shark-infested waters - they'd understand that killing "'cause it's fun" isn't the right thing to do.

This world is full of so many rich, wonderful things... Sunsets on the ocean; the Aurora Borealis; triumph over adversity; children; and yes... Swimming with creatures much larger (and possibly wiser) than you. There's no need to hunt and kill (or even hunt and not kill) for the "thrill" of it.

There's simply much better things to do with your time - and with many of these things, you'll never have to disembowel and rip the skin off of another animal so that you can eat his insides. Yuck!

The other day a buddy of mine asked me how I afforded to get into diving in the first place. He was asking me as he sat atop his $50,000 boat (that takes $50/hour to turn on with several $1,000 fishing reels.

I was scraping his boat - and getting paid to do it. By him.

How do I respond to that question? "You could do it, too, if you'd just sell a reel or two," is all I could say.

He'd see much bigger fish if he did that - and never have to "humanely decapitate" one. And if he wanted to eat one, he could stop at the local restaurant and have one cooked for him... And still have enough money left over at the end of the day for a slice of Key Lime pie and a cup of coffee (which didn't require the death of an animal to enjoy).

Look - I, too, eat meat and drink milk and enjoy cheese and ice cream... I'm no vegan. That said, I don't understand the "thrill" of killing anything, and do my best to enjoy life as it is presented to me... And recommend the attitude. :)
