Taking Fish on a Plane from Japan

Just an FYI - traveling overseas & back with your pet is one thing. If you went overseas & bought a shepard in Germany you had better have a Customs broker because that is a commercial transaction. Police departments and/or breeders that buy dogs overseas have to get them cleared w/ Customs & USDA. I worked at another company that handled some of the clearances for Brookfield Zoo, even with the exchange programs they have with other zoos overseas, they still need to be Customs & FWS cleared if the goods originate from another country.

Your fish is beautiful!! I'm glad everything worked out.

thanks!

gonna have to keep them apart for a bit as the small one is just way too small..

Congrats on the fish!
Be careful with the larger one.

The larger ones are easy to get at this size.

The baby is insane, they stay in Japan and never export them.
If it was not Koji traveling to Los Angeles I doubt it would arrive.

agree on all points...

bigger one is 3 inches...they will be in same fuge but either eggcrated or acclimation box to prevent anything bad from occuring...

thanks!

Did you ever report to US Customs or the USFWS that you were importing this fish? Or did you just not say anything and keep it in your luggage?

Im surprised no one has mentioned Quinine Sulfate. This was specifically designed to completely wipe out almost every strain of ich out there. And most importantly its very safe to use on all fish.

I have success with Coppersafe on smaller systems, and cupramine on larger systems. They are actually the same, but cupramine is more potent and needs less to be effective. I will only use Quinine in a QT setting from now on - only a 7 day treatment and "explodes ich" - exact words from the nationalfishpharm guys. !

in case you are mistaken it is the thread starter 'tactics' who brought his fish with him....not 'humaguy' who is having a pair....:)

Chloroquine phosphate was mentioned; it is an antimalarial drug like quinine. CP works equally well at killing Crypto and does not have some of the side effects that QS does. It is the standard treatment for Crypto in public aquariums nowadays. Quinine was discovered, not invented, and it's used primarily as an antimalarial drug, not for fish parasites!

Completely and utterly false information here. Jazzman touched upon some of the correct/factual information.

Quinine sulphate is NOT very safe to use on all fish ... In fact, QS is one of the more "harsh" medications to use on most fishes, FYI.

However, it is sometimes one of the best/better options for Cryptocaryon irritans. For example, Id personally be more inclined to treat an "ich" infected fish, dependent on species, with Quinine than Cu

Little update on the interrupta. So far the little angel has adapted very well to aquarium life - she has a very hearty appetite. She will eat anything - pellets, mysis, flakes, nori, etc.

She's about 2" now, so about .5" in growth in 3 months. The biggest gains seem to be her girth, which is great to see.

Here are some updated pictures. Please help me identify pics #3 and #4. It looks like something is biting her and taking small chunks of scales out of her side. Can anyone else confirm they are bite marks? 48 hours ago, she appeared with maybe 2 bite marks. Now there's multiple - all on her right side only.
