Great fish.

Does anyone know why there haven't been any Tamarin around lately. I have been asking around for months and no one seems to have any in stock.

haven't seen any here on the Island recently either, they must be seasonal..I did recently pick up a Black Back (China wrasse) which is technically a Tamarin.

How's the neoguinaicus doing for you? I saw that LA had them back in stock a day or so ago but not any more. It's been something I'd love to get for my tank.

I saw a LFS here in Atlanta got a "stripped tamarin" in stock, not sure what sp. it is though.

Ralph's are sick as always, never get tired of seeing pics of them.

The Blackback is doing well and by far it was the easiest Tamarin for me to acclimate...It started picking at rocks as soon as it hit the water and was eating frozen foods within an hour...unfortuneately the yellow tail I described back in March I lost when it jumped pushing through a piece of acrylic I used to cover a return hole in the top...yes it was that big and strong....The Blue dot is still doing well and starting to get the red in it's fins...there was no problems adding the Blackback with the use of an accliamtion box.

I added my China Wrasse straight to the DT. It took a few weeks of multiple feedings a day soaked in Vita-chem or Selcon to fatten it up, but it is doing great. Pictures definitely do not do them any justice, once I saw it in person I had to have one.

Did you QT the blackback or straight to DT?

one of the very few that went straight in only because I was watching it at my LFS for a few weeks...I placed it an accliamtion box for a few hours monitoring it and went in that night after the main lights went out. It picked at rocks and ate alittle then in the sand for the night coming out the next morning....

I like what I read on their "about us" page.

First of all, we are hobbyists just like you. We treat your fish the same way you do. Second, we focus on one thing, saltwater fish, and one thing only. We do not try to do everything. That is why we can be the best. Third, we have searched worldwide to find the best suppliers of saltwater fish. We are committed to bringing you the healthiest livestock, at the best price anywhere! If it is not good enough for our own tanks, we will not sell it to you. We promise.

I sent them a message. Thanks for the heads up.

i've read and heard maybe a total of 30 experiences from folks and friends who tried them out. of those maybe 2 that i recall were satisfied with their experience. the general consensus is everything is swell until it isn't and then it's distasteful responses from the vendor, lack of customer service, no response, and the majority of fish arriving with issues ranging from simpler bacterial infections to two cases of fish having MV and nuking the buyer's tanks. obviously a qt and prophylaxis would mediate some of the more severe issues but thought i would share regardless because they are commonly known at least in my community and on some of the other popular reef boards (check vendor review sections) as someone you would not want to buy from despite seemingly always moving fish and have a nice selection of less commonly seen livestock.

Almost pulled the trigger on this one today, thats a great buy.

It sold within a few hours.

me too - usually a bit more expensive from DD and not too often seen. definitely was tempted! hopefully the winner is on the boards and will share their new a.feminus with us with some photos and video!

much appreciated on the PM's and post about the online store I asked about. That's what I love about forums. The good and the bad talked about.

Looks like I have an opportunity at an A. neoguinaicus again. A LFS has had one in "QT" for three weeks now. Sounds like he might at least have it eating. Going to check it out Saturday. The last one he had was about 3".

I just joined the Tamarin club. Another thread here promted me to take a look at one that was at Vivid Aquarium. I'm fortunate to have them within a couple miles from my office. They have a good QT system and are very meticulous when it comes to their fishes health. They had it a while and it was eating frozen mysis which I saw first hand. I decided to bite the bullet on it. It went straight into my display and was eating within minutes after acclimation.

I have a bunch of other wrasses including several fairy wrasses, a Leopard Wrasse, a large Malanarus, a Six Line etc. All are getting along well with no agression towards the new Tamarin. My tank is a 480g display with 650g overall volume between the sump and refugiums. It's been up for about 18 years now with only one break down 12 years ago for a sanding and polishing and re-aquascaping using my existing live rock. There is nearly 1000 pounds of live rock in the system with an awful lot of pods. I add new pod cultures regularly to keep my smaller pod eating fish fat and happy as well as to add diversity to the breeding population. I also feed this tank heavily multiple times a day so this fish should be fat and happy in it's new home.
