Tang Compatibility in a 135g

So I'm trying to convince my gf to allow an upgrade and one of my arguments is that we can both get our favorite fish, mine being a naso tang and hers is a powder blue tang. Is that even true? Will they get along in a 135? (72x18x24) I know I wont be able to keep the naso in there forever but I've been told they are fine for several years in a 6ft long tank.

Naso tangs get quite large (1.5 feet fully grown). Some sources say they need a minimum 180 gallon tank (6 feet long). At least you have the "minimum length" for a naso tang, but will eventually need to upgrade.

As for the PBT, I don't have experience with them but my understanding is that they may be aggressive. Since nasos are considered to be quite passive (mine is very shy), I'd place the naso tang into the tank first.

+1...Personally, I'd skip the PB, but if that's what the GF wants...

I find it amusing that you used that argument as a case for an upgrade and THEN you decided to find out if it was true. ;) you sly dog, you.

Lol. I love the argument to get a bigger tank. I personally wouldn't do the Naso. I love them and are my favorite tang but I wont even do one in a 180 I'm setting up. They just get to big and not only need the swimming space but will make my tank look small and out of proportion.

I know it's the wrong type of thinking but I try to convince myself by saying a 135 is better than someone putting it in a 55g (I know that people do).

I know I can't keep one in a 135 for life but is it reasonable to think that one would be happy in there for a couple of years?

Thanks ;)

What's going to be really amusing is if you upgrade, but hafta get her favorite fish and not yours. :)
