Tanglovers 520 Gallon Display Build

Yeah kind of hard to hide the clarion in about any pic I take :) He is so personable and an awesome fish. Luckily ours is not very aggressive at all. He will be one of the last additions to the tank. There will be quite a few less aggressive fish getting added.

2nd Coat of herculiner is on, now time to start cutting on the wall!

Nothing too crazy for tangs, 4 zebrasomas and a blonde naso....I will do a full stock list as fish are added to the tank after it is set up.

Aquascaping dryrun is just about done (playing with it outside of the tank), this is my wife's department. She always does a great job, I do not have the patience for it.

Got the wall ripped apart and almost all framed in. I will be finishing this here in the next hour or two. Tomorrow, drywall will be put up and the first layer of mud put on. The last main coat of herculiner will also be put on the stand.

Coming together nicely. Saturday is the big tank move in date.

Well wall is all modified. Opened it up and also made a short wall infront the stand. Tomorrow is drywall hanging and first coat of mud. I am trying to locate some more paperless drywall (DensArmor) locally. When I built my fishroom a little over 3 years ago, Lowe's carried it but I found out today they no longer do. If I can not locate the DensArmor I will use greenboard.

Here is a quick pic. I will get one of the stand tomorrow, seems like whenever I get around to getting pics it is dark outside...

Nice. If I remember correctly a 40W rainbow UV needs about 200gph to be affective agains ich. As stated above at 8-900 gph I don't think the UV's will have any affect on ich.

Following along, I ordered a 8x4x2 tank about 2 weeks ago. Will prob do a build thread here.
5 20 amp breakers? a little overkill?

Yes and no. Do I need the power 5 20 amp breakers can supply no. It is this way for redundancy. This way if a circuite trips it does not take down the system. For example, return pumps and intank flow (closed loops) are split among multiple circuits. If a circuit trips, I still have flow going through the sump and flow in the main tank, maybe not as much but still enough to support the system until I find / can reset the circuit etc.

I guess you will be using a lot more power than I will. I planned on 2 20a circuits. Lights and return pump on one, circulation and the rest on a second. Is that to supply power for your other tanks too? I assumed the power supply for them was already in place.

This is going to be gorgeous when it is completed. Where did you get all your rock and was it dry rock?

The rock was dry when I bought it. I got it at the Tropicorium on the east side of Michigan. They had around 1200 lbs of dry on hand and I picked out about 400 I wanted.

The drywall is all up and the first coat of mud is on. I was able to locate a few sheets of the paperless (GP DensArmor Plus) locally. I used it in my entire fish room over 3 years ago and the room as done great! No issues at all and there was about 1000 gallons of water, will be about 1400 when this system is done.

My wife has been working on the aquascaping - outside of the tank to see what we want to accomplish once the tank is in place. It is turning out very nice!!! Much better then I could ever ask for or dream of. I have zero patience when it comes to aquascaping so it is great that she loves it!

Might be bringing in a box of fish from Hawaii. I was not planning on any new additions yet but might be a couple fish I can not pass on.....details later :)

I agree. There is nothing like redundancy.

Hmmm, and what might you be bringing in from Hawaii?

The Hawaii order is not for sure yet, depends on how a couple of the fish I am looking at are doing. If I do the order, a couple flame wrasses would be added to the box.

Well I finished the touch up herculiner coating on the stand today. Sanded down the first coat of drywall mud and applied the second layer. Also got the plywood to go on the bottom and top of the stand all pained today.

Game plan for tomorrow:

- Sand Drywall mud and if it looks good (it should) paint the walls

- Drill 4 holes in the Eurobracing of the 520 (easier to do outside of the wall)

- Build platforum / ramp to get the tank in place

Saturdays plan:

- Remove the slider from the wall to get tank entered

- Have the pool table moved so tank can come in

- Move in the tank and stand in

- Have the pool table replaced to where it is now

- Reinstall the slider we have to pull out

Bottom line, so far I am right on schedule :)

Well I had a budget for this tank upgrade and I have gone over that by some.

It really is hard as to tell you what a 450 FOWLR would cost to set up. I really depends on the type and quality of equipment and the bioload for the system.

Well even tank pricing can range. Before this tank came up (I bought it used from a fellow hobbyist), I was talking to Miracles in Canada about ordering a new glass tank very similar to this one and got delivered pricing of around $7000. I paid $2500 for this tank used with the stand.
