Tank size? Fuge size?

Since I'm doing an under the tank sump this go round, my refugium is only going to be about 9 gallons out of a total of around 240. My 180 system was about 285 gallons total with a 20 gallon refugium plumbed as a satelite tank with only a fraction of the sumps total flow. This one will be in line receiving ALL the flow through it as an in-line chamber of the sump.

Anyway, just trying to make myself feel better.

How big is your tank? (total system volume) {example: Tom, tmz has like 6 million gallons or something like that :fun5: }
How big is your Refugium?

10 gallon fuge on a ~260 gallon system.

I wouldn't get your undies in a knot over the fuge size/system size ratio. What are you trying to accomplish with your refugium?

I just need a space to grow chaeto.

I'm wondering if the flow rate you're planning on sending through the fuge would cause any issues. Are you putting sand in it? Rock rubble? Chaeto?

Do you have your sump layout posted anywhere?

If it were me, I'd tee off of my return and put a valve on it to control the flow rate through the fuge.

Not sure that's gonna be readable Scott. Monkeyed with designs for a few days. I'll post it after its built.

NO ONE ELSE HAS A REFUGIUM????

20G fuge with my 90 display. I used to have a 10G fuge when the sump was in the stand under the 90.

I got about the same amount of nuisance algae with both configs. I think the benefit of the pods for my mandarin and leopard wrasse are as important as the nutrient export.

That's a different conversation, but I'm with you. That is my primary goal. Pods. I plan on resuming my old schedule of weekly, large water changes for the majority of my export. Macroalgae growth, for me, is an anecdotal means of monitoring the refugium. Not counting on it as a workhorse.

Planning on leaving it bare bottom with a few pieces of small LR. It will be siphoned out monthly.

OMG Gary! Now that's a dinner! I forgot my original query.

If you're ever in Syracuse, I recommend Alto Cinco for catfish tacos. Warsh it down with Hop Stoopid, or Lagunitas IPA, or Torpedo (or a quality Mexican brew like Tecate, Modelo, or good ole Corona ) and go to bed because your day is over, having experienced its highlight.

8ish gallon fuge with rock rubble and chaeto on my 75g display. The fuge is part of the 29g sump.

400 -gallons total
230- gallons of tank water
75 -gallon fuge ,1/2 is the fuge the rest is for socks and skimmer etc .
100 -gallon rubbermaid vat just for volume

thats my story and im sticking with it !

I have a 9G fuge with my 75G display. The fuge is a chamber on my 29G sump. Just because the fuge is part of the sump doesn't mean that it has to see the full flow of the sump. My return is in the middle and my fuge is on the opposite side of the return as the equipment chamber. I use a T and a valve to divert some of the flow from the return pump through the fuge. Fuge is on the left.

Heres a question regarding mechanical filtration in a fuge (total 36"x16".. I have 2- 2" lines flowing into my fuge which disperse through 4 socks then a quarter partition wall(6") that holds the sandbed in place to the fuge which is approx 13 1/2" x16" to a 10" partition wall thyat holds a sponge that water overflows onto then into the sump area which houses my skimmer carbon reactor and return pump...
Question is the PODS that are so benificial live within the sandbed area which has roughly 4" sand a few medium sized pcs of LR and Cheato which occupies 90% of the fuge area..
Is the sponge blocking the pods from circulating through or can they burrough right through it and if so does the return pump not kill them?? Guess Im asking this because Im tring to figure a way of feeding My copperband Bfly weather it be w/ pods or like a mysis nursery down there or am I just crazy :)

Also just got the OK from wife to install 125 gallon fuge/ frag tank in my basement through my wall which will give me up to 250 gallons of seawater, and much more room for my mysis nursery :)

~ Mark,
15 gal under tank sump/ fuge.72 gal dt.It works for me with full flow through using a 9.5 mag pump.Seems like alot of flow but its suprisingly not ,imo.
Looking down into the fuge ,I can see swarms of micro pods.Way to small to get a pic ,about the size of a pen dot.

29g refug (maybe 25 gallons water) on a 92g display and 20g sump.

BTW Alto Cinco is pretty good, went there during last years frag meet with my sister who is living in Cuse, granted my sinus were so bad I couldn't taste anything.

Not quite that big.

400gallons of reef tanks and frag tanks linked to ca. 200gallons of sumps, chaeto fuges and cryptic fuges, with extra liverock and some remote deep sand with live rock on it.

Truly a slice of the ocean.

Primarily looking for a pod farm and to grow some chaeto. I am planning to have the Skimmers output to bypass the refugium chamber to decrease a percentage of flow through its compartment.
