Tank upgrade --> 300 Gallon Marineland Project

I have been changing out 40 gallons a week. I have slowed down since I haven't had many fish for a long while. I have 6 anthias going into the tank in about 2 weeks. I'll go back to 40 gallons a week once I start feeding them.

How is that Sohal working out for you? I almost bought one at the critter on Sunday. I talked to another person that had one once and he said he had to pull it since it was such a terror to everything in the tank. I'd hate to spend that kind of loot on a fish and have it go amuck.

Hey Mike, i opened up my strainers on my overflows also. I cut out every third one. So far everyone is staying on the lit side. Only have one fish small enough to weasel through and it never ventures much more than 15" off the sand. it sure made a difference in the surface crud. My skimmer has almost doubled in production. Had to clean the neck turd out of it tonight LOL

Thanks, only been able to muster 30g a week due to the transfer container size. May need to work some things around.

The sohal is doing well. He is definitely a terror but only to my other tangs. Fortunately, he is an equal opportunity terror amongst all 4 other tangs so he spreads the aggression around. I definitely wouldn't keep him 1:1 with another tang.

Hey Mark!

The chromis that went over were really small. I think they are in my sump now. I'll have to catch them and throw them back in the DT. :) Catch and release...

I think 30g is more than sifficent. It sure makes the salt last longer.

I have been thinking more and more about the stocking of tangs and at first I was thinking of just having the Sohal. I like Naso's and powder blue tangs too. I also like the beneficial rock cleaning that you get from a lot of the other species of tangs. Now I find myself confused about what I should get, lol.

I think the kole is a great grazer, and peaceful.

I read on WetWebMedia that the convict tang can be schooled, you could have 6 or 8 in your 300, could look awesome.
The convict is also peaceful, could still have powder blue...

My Kole was a whack job, it would be calm for days and then go off on a rampage. And to top it off it would almost do loops and swim backwards and upside down. He didn't make it through the near crash.

It sounds like you had one wild fish on your hands! lol

Mike what size is that temporary tank that you used? Looks like the dimensions for a tank im looking for.

I'm not sure what the exact demensions are off the top of my head. I know it is 6' wide and 18" deep. I think it is only 14" high. If I remember correctly it is only a 100 gallon tank. It is scrached up pretty good so it would not be to good for a display. I have it staged as my frag tank now. There isn't any water in it at the moment. All I have to do is fill it and turn the pumps back on. What type of project are you looking to complete with this size tank?

I have some new fish in the QT going through hypo now. Last week I purchased a 2" baby blue morpho tang. This weekend I picked up a small percula clown. On my way home I passed Best in Pets in E-town. I thought what the heck let me stop in and see what they have. I walked out with a nice Blonde Naso with streamers and a Gold Rim/White cheek tang. Everything is in the QT and eating well.

A couple weeks ago I added a small Wall Hammer, ORA Pearlberry and an ORA Red Planet. All of those corals appear to be doing well also.

that naso you have is nice Mike ..been looking at that for a bit now and the price ?? cant beat it at all ,,,good score bud

I took some pictures.

I noticed the black silicone on the bottom seam is turning yellow. I don't know what to think about that. I do know that if that seam fails I am done with this hobby.
