I have had the blue haddoni for 4 years now. It has a funny story to it. I bought it off of a guy in Florida. He posted it in the livestock for sale forum. He shipped it to me in a check box in the middle of June. The anemone was placed in a ziplock sandwich bag for shipment. I thought for sure it was going to be a gonner. It has done well for me after all these years. It has consumed three times its purchase price in fish since I have owned it. I guess it falls in line with, "you'll have that!"

mike660R, thanks for the invite to your thread. great info here about your build. what kind of wood did you use for your stand and canopy ? did you have a sketch? at present i am awaiting to get a quote for the 200 gallon with starfire on three viewable sides. did you get starfire as well ? Once I get this I will start my stand.

Hey there Alex,
Welcome to my build thread. The stand is built out of pine. I couldn't afford the oak finish that I wanted. I feel that the pine matches more furniture in my room anyway so it all worked out in the end. My tank has the starfire front panel. I can't really see that much difference in the side views of my tank in comparison to just the front view.

Thanks for the comment on the starfire. I have a quote on front panel glass, I wanted to see if It pays to get all three sides. what's your opinion on that. Out of pine , nice look though, it does seem to match well. on a side note, my wife is the boss when it comes to this tank so like you I'm listening also. so if I want that tank she wants it a certain way. It's good to see that I'm not the only husband with a closet reefer wife. secretly see loves this stuff but to admit it would put her in a bind.LOL

I made some progress this evening. I managed to get the lighting hardware installed in the hood. I used 3 SLS Lumenmax elite reflectors and 4 - 6ft' VHOs. Everything went in great.

I posted all the pictures I took of the stand and hood build. The hood was built with all 1" thick material. the side were made from two 8" wide boards glued and screwed together. The top consists of several 1"x6" boards. I tried to build the hood as lite as I could. I have an idea to automate the hood so that It will raise 18" vertically off of the tank. That project has a 500.00 starting figure so it isn't a priority just yet.

For years I had my bulbs all facing left to right, parallel to the tank. The reason I had set it up that way on my old tank was gain a better cooling affect with my fans. Having the old spider reflectors turned so that they were parallel aloud the air to flow through them more freely. After hearing a few talks about metal halides I started to doubt if I was doing the right thing. We had Tulio Dell (sp) come in and speak on lighting last year. He stated that metal halide bulbs are supposed to operate at the high temperatures they produce. Cooling them with fans could offset the performance of the bulb. I had already decided before I built this new tank that I wasn't going to add the cooling fans this time around. The number one reason was the noise they generated. I had also read other comments on RC that it is recommended to place them in perpendicular. I believe those comments were in relationship to the older style open ended reflectors. With the reflectors I have now I don't think it would make much of a difference since all 4 sides have a reflective surface. To sum it all up the cables routed out the back of the hood much easier seting them up the way I did.
