Time for an update. Since getting my kitten my poor reef has been neglected other than cleaning the skimmer, cleaning the glass and feed the fish and corals. I hadnt been dosing alkalinity and calcium regularly and about 2 weeks ago they hit a low of 5.1 and 350. Ive gotten back into the routine of dosing but need to setup my dosers again with my apex.
Surprisingly nothing was affected by my laziness. Everything still looks really good. My setosa frag started to bleach out a little but its doing fine now. Sorry I didnt bother to color balance the photos. They obviously arent that blue.
some cool new frags with some potential
RR Sunset Milli growing fast
no idea what this is but the polyps appear more orange in real life
So.... It's been like 6 months without a water change... or really any maintenance other than filling up my top off water and cleaning the skimmer. I finally reprogrammed my apex to dose more alk/cal because corals are getting pretty big now. A lot of them a really light colored at this point and my red dragon has red bugs.
There is bubble algae everywhere so I decided to go to my LFS last week to grab a ton of emerald crabs. They ended up getting me to go with a foxface. I always quarantine but at this point I was on the verge of shutting it down so I threw it in. He is destroying it.
At this point Im considering downsizing because Im in CA and the water pressure seems to have dropped a lot. It takes almost 3 hours to fill a 5 gallon jug when it used to take an hour.
I've been feeding a lot more and dosing aminos to try and get my nutrients back up a little. Now that I have the magnificent foxface rabbit fish, Im considering keeping it up and buy a pump for my RODI unit.
Good thing you have a lid on your tank. When my bengal was about 1 year old, he went swimming to catch fish. All I heard was a splash coming from the room where the tank was and then lots of sloshing, he was pulling himself out of the tank by the time I ran in there. Had to give him a bath so the salt water didn't mess his skin up. Luckily the tank was fine.
I've been having issues with water quality the last couple of months though. Everything I've been able to test for is good. We started getting our water from a different source though which is said to have chlorine in it.
