Terry's 180 Peninsula Reef build.

And... The tinkering continues.

I have been thinking about adding some blue LED accent lights, but I didn't want to mess with the fixture, as it looks so nice. I have also thought about adding a floating canopy that matches the stand. I haven't added the LEDs (yet), but I did make and paint the floating canopy today. I painted the outside the same as the stand, and the inside the same turquoise as the inside of the stand/island:

Thanks Gary.

Yes the pumps were running. The pumps are a little louder in person than they show up on the video.

Update time!

I have been wanting to incorporate a 20 gallon high tank I had lying around before the fuge, hopefully replacing the fuge and allowing me to use the 40B as a frag tank. So step one, move the drain plumbing to the 20 high, and plumb that to the 40B:

My sump is starting to look a bit Frankenstein-ish, but it does add water volume to the system and gives me options with the fuge.

I also drilled what was the return section of my sump for a 2" bulkhead and plumbed it to a 40B under the stand:

This allows me to use a common sump for any tanks I add to the basement (like the 180 In-wall I am planning when we finish the basement!!!)

I also added some brackets to the hood for the LED strips:

Just watched the 1 year update video. Meticulous job. Like you need me to tell you that...
Inspirational. My new tank is in and I just started doing some prep work. This really gets the creative juices flowing. I think you and Gary are keeping URS afloat in that regard. I keep thinking j need to join Facespace or whatever it's called, but I just can't do it.

Good job and Thanks!

Thanks Cully!

I've really loved building this tank. At just about a year in, it is exactly what I hoped it would be.

The next plan (which the better half has already green lit) is when we finish the basement and make a separate fish room, to have an in-wall tank (something big, like 7 or 8 feet) built into the wall that separates the family room from the fish room, all tied into the same system... The gears are already turning thinking about the massive fish I could put in there. I am thinking FOWLR, or mostly FOWLR with some aggressive fish, eels, angels etc.

Thank you.

I added two Reefbrite strips (one Tech, one XHO) and the change in coral coloration was almost immediate.

Lots of updates tonight...

As I mentioned in my above post, I have added two Reefbrite strips to the tank. One 72" actinic Tech strip, and 2x 36" XHOs that I am trying out. The improvement in coral color and polyp extension was almost immediate. Here you can see the lights mounted in my canopy:

I also replaced the 40B that was serving as my fuge. You may have noticed in older pictures the one end was completely covered in silicone. That was because I cracked the tank when I was plumbing it, and it was a temporary fix. I didn't trust it long term, so old 40 out, new 40 in:
