Here's a 22lb lunker my brother caught in the lake across the street from my house last fall.

That fish was released after her 5 minutes of fame because about 4 lbs of that wieght was eggs in her belly, so she is most likely still in the lake and getting bigger every year.

Paul- Nice one! You sure you weren't noodling? You look a bit mucky!
I guess all those stories that used to scare the heck out of me about there being aligators in our lakes were pretty much true.

dugg- Is that a large mouth bass? Good lord!

Yeah, i was wondering that too Serra. I can't tell if Paul caught the fish or the fish caught Paul lol. That is a monster blue cat. Paul was that caught local or off on a fishing trip?

Yes. that's a large mouth bass. They don't make em that big in Oklahoma. My brother catches em like that all the time here. His average is 12 to 16 lbs here. I'm not all that big on bass fishing myself. I would much rather catch the fish that caught Paul any day lol.

There is a place in Edmond that has big blue cats like that, but the lake is private these days and has houses built all around it. Fox lake in Edmond is packed full of monsters like that. We used to sneak in there to fish when i was young before they built all the houses around the lake. They don't allow any live bait to be used in the lake, but if you take a bucket of shiners , you better bring extra stringers and some buckets. You used to be able to park just south of Hwy66 on the south bound side of I-35 and walk in, but now you have to know someone that lives there.

Paul that is a awesome catch. I love to fly fish also, but did not want to hook into a muskie with my pole. How long did it take for you to get him in ???

The reason I am so dirty was that I had to wade out to get her. There was a ring of weed and I really wanted to see that fish.

It took me about 30 mins in very hot weather to get her in.
It was a friends pond in a property he just bought. He said he didnt think there were fish in there....looking at the size of her...I can see why he didnt see many little ones.

btw....that was the 5th cast, sinking line, wet fly ...a montana I think.

Catch and release is the best sport. Minimal damage to the fish, make them maybe a little warier of the too-easy-deal, and most of those big guys are real old. I enjoy fishing, but I rarely eat freshwater fish, so all mine get released. There should always be giants in the world.
