Great tank you have. My next tank I want is going to be acryllic. Im just scrared of acryllic sratching so easily.

Holly Moly..Nice Tangs...

I was going through your thread and saw something I wanted to ask you about. What are thoese 2 large filters by your r/o.

Thanks again for the comments.

The tangs actually do quite well with one another. I was a little worried at first but being that they are the same size there is a "mutual respect" between them. I also have a Red Sea Sailfin in there and everyone gets along quite well.

The filter was a 300 gallon poly tank that I "use" to have. I went through what I consider a great purging of equipment and just went with the basics. A good skimmer, good lighting, and good flow. The poly tank was going to be used to house water for for water changes. I decided that a 50 gallon container would suffice so it freed up space. The other blue filters are a straight up DI filter with carbon block. I am not using it either as the water where I live eats up the DI so quickly that it just wasn't cost effective. I am actually probably going to convert it into a GFO and Carbon reactor.

Don't let anyone tell you acrylic doesn't scratch easily because it definitely does. I have been very fortunate though with my big tank because I am extremely careful when cleaning but I still get small scratches. It is part of an acrylic tank but they can be buffed out. Acrylic was the best way to go for the tank that I wanted.

So the vlamingi and powder blue are not in the tank anymore?

Unfortunately they did not survive the Ich outbreak of Christmas 2008. It was extremely sad. Had to pull everything and hypo the tank for two months.

Current stock right now is the
Sohal Tang
Clown Tang
Red Sea Sailfin
2 x Perculas
Mature Leopard Wrasse (beautiful coloring)
Velvet Wrasse
2 x Anthias

After my ich outbreak the fish I have now are the lone survivors. I have not added any fish in over a year but am in the process of setting up a nice quarantine system and will slowly start to introduce more fish after proper quarantining.

Picture of new and improved filtration/catch all room. Newest additions are 1/2 HP Chiller and a Dilayseas unit :bounce3:
Just got the Dialyseas up and running this week so still waiting to see the results but so far pretty impressive unit.

I also added a Frag/Quarantine Setup which you can see in the left side of the pic. Right now it is hot as can be and I am not too interested in getting a chiller for it so as of now there isn't anything in them.

Hello Navyav8tr,

That is a fantastic sump back room setup....I am really liking the look of the frag quarantine setup looks like it will work out very well for you.

Just curious your reasoning for going with the Dialyseas unit....I haven't found too many users with this technology and am curious what is the potential benefits of using this system are.

Cheers,

Patrick

Patrick,
Thanks for the kind comments. I ended up going with a Dialyseas Unit for a couple of reasons. One I got a good deal on it and two I wanted to implement a filtration system that did small amounts of water changes all day long. IMO this will result in a more stable system and provide the trace elements that are lost over time. I ended up doing a 5 gallon water change per day. What the Dialyseas does is come on 48 times per day and "dialyize" 0.104 gallons each time, resulting in 5 gallons. You can modify this for whatever gallonage you would like. So what I am doing per month is about a 155 gallon water change.
Is it a fancy piece of equipment that got stars in my eyes? Absolutely but so far I am very happy with it. It is quite a piece of equipment and keeps the conductivity within 0.1 mS.

Hello Navyav8tr,

Thanks for the response in regards to my questions on the Dialyseas.....is this the sole function of this unit or does it have other programing features as well? I would assume this unit will have an advantage in regards to redundancy that perhaps some of the lower priced models on the market do not provide ie. spectrapure litermeter?

Your equipment area looks sharp!

The Dialyseas unit realy minimizes the vessels one needs for lots of water changes for sure. Have to agree on the daily changes. Small daily changes has given me the best result. Especially with SPS. I am changing my whole filtration set around to utilize multiple metering pumps to perform a simlar function, but I'd rather have one of these if only my budget would allow.

I don't see any of the tangs in the FTS. Are any of the former trio still in the system?
