I came home from work today and found a pleasant surprize. A box with 2 Tunze 6000's 2 decorocks and amulticontroler.................whoooooohhooooooo.

Thanks for your help Roger can't wait to get these babies wet.

Brian

Far out Brewboy.... Keep us posted what you think...! I ditched my Canadian supplier, as I got an email from Marine Depot saying, "We haven't heard from you in a while...? Here's an email coupon for 20% off any order through June 9th..."

Needless to say I went for it... I'm on a waiting list, but I saved $140 off the order for 2 6000's and a Multicontroller, so I'm happy...!

Really interested in hearing your impressions of these Streams though...!

That sucks and is great at the same time. You shouldn't wait too long Roger is getting the 6000's caught up nicely.

I just got them up and going. I like them ALOT. Talk about suspending detritus........whoa baby. My southdown sand is going to have to find a happy place as some of it is getting picked up and blown around. I have the settings pretty low right now on pluse mode. We will see how that goes.

I got 2 of the deco rocks but the just dont work well in an 18' wide tank. I may sell them or just hang on to them in case I get a bigger tank in the future that would suit them better.

Not much in the tank to appriciate the current though, I don't think the snails and hermits care too much.

Let me know when you get yours

Brian

Did you get and use the 3000.244 mounting kits? How do they work/look if so...?

Are you alternating them back and forth (tidal mode?)... That is what I want to do... Wave action...!

Does they give good water movement at the top surface, so that your shimmer lines with the haildes are more prominate?

Todd, the 3000.244 kit will be included when you get yours. Everything I have received in the last week has had the new installation kit which included this piece and the screws are 5mm longer to accomodate All Glass.

Roger, I ordered the 3000.244 kits with my order... Should I cancel them then...?

I didn't want to buy the mounting kit to begin with, as I want to use the new magnetic holders, but I figured they won't be available for a few more months, so this sounds great...

Not like $7.06 is gunna bust me...!

I mounted mine on the overflows for now. Waiting on the magnet holders. When are those to become available again Roger? The surface ripples are great. The shimmer is really pretty even though I am only pulsing up to about 50% right now. I want to do tide mode but am a bit leary due to the snail issue. I also have a 6 line wrasse in QT that has been sleeping in a power head, I had to pull it out. I will wait and see on the tide mode.

What is the snail issue...? That they get too comfortable and climb onto the Streams while the pump is dormant/off...?

Your tank is 5' long, Brian...? Water movement is clear across...?

Yah, you can get a snail stuck in the prop and it can on rare occasion break the propellor.

Yes, my tank is 5' long and I get great water movement with them so far. I will up the pulse towards 100% in the next few days and it will get even better. When I put it up to full now it blows alot of my sand around.

I must say that I really dig the photosensor, its works great as has everything so far. I guess that is German craftmanship for you. These pumps are the Mercedes of powerheads...........

So how much does the flow decrease by when the lights are out in the room...? It really works well, huh? Leave it to Tunze...

I wish more Americans could appreciate quality rather than price point (Mac versus PC comes to this Macfantics mind)... Everyone is excited on the Seio pump thread as Taam/Rio is coming out with a "controller" for the Seio pumps so that they can "turn them down" or have them "go on and off"... Really, when you compare it to what the Streams can do, it's pitiful... Not to even mention Rio/Taam's reputation of quality... But the price is right, and so Americans will buy itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Âeven if breaks, and they have to buy them over and over... Personally, I adore German aquaria gear because you buy it once, and it keeps going and going and going...

I am glad to see Tunze doing so well here in the US... AB-AquaMedic has done well here too with the Aquaspacelight fixtures... I still wish we could get a Dupla distributor in this country... And it seems that Schuran isn't doing too well here either, which sucks as their quality is breathtaking...

I haven't heard of Dupla or Schuran. What types of products do they make?

The flow drops to the low settings so in my case 30%. I can't say that it shows in my tank because I don't have anything to show th flow.

Dupla will be coming back. Hawaiian Marine Imports is the Dupla distributor. You may know that Dupla went bankrupt last year and spent sometime in limbo after a failed buy out attempt by Red Sea. Now the German courts have awarded ownership to Hobby/Dohse on grounds they keep all the employees or pay severance and production remain in Germany. I saw it at Interzoo and nothing had changed, so it really is back- heating cables and all. In a few months we will see it again but the demand is limited so they mainly sell it direct. I use quite a bit of Dupla stuff myself so I try to keep up.

Schuran does have an unbelieveable quality but the problem there is it is almost just for the sake of quality. The principals of operation are not novel, the craftsmanship is really remarkable though. They are also very expensive, well above the other brands you mentioned. I will say there new skimmer wash system was pretty unique but otherwise it isn't much different than the American acrylic product except the wall gauge is overkill and the craftsmanship leaves no seams, no blems, no glops of glue, it is perfect.

Roger,

You aren't impressed with the Jetstream line of Ca Reactors? I have a friend in the Bay area that loves his (but people often rave when they pay a lot)... And I notice a lot of German and UK reefers use Schuran Jetstream as well...

Glad to hear about Dupla, though I am no longer keeping planted tanks....

Dupla! I used a lot of Dupla's stuff on my first reef tank 15 years ago. I wondered where they were when I started the road back to the hobby.

I agree, the Germans know aquarium supply quality!

steve
PS -- still don't have my tank plumbed, so the 6000 hasn't seen wet service yet :)

You will love it when you fire it up. Mine are doing great my sand is settling and I am slowly increasing the power.

Brewboyââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬ÂDupla was at one time the elite of the elite of German aqauria suppliers... They introduced double ended HQI halides to the aquarium hobby (and they were EXPENSIVE! I bought one of the first Dupla fixtures with a 150W DE Osram Power Star (4500K) in 1990ish and it was over $1000!) They have always specialized in supplies for planted freshwater aqauaria, and made very inventive products such as low voltage heating cables for the substrate of planted tanks to keep the roots of plants warm and therefore induce faster growth... Tunze makes such cables too, I believe...?

Schuran is another German company known for their quality of acrylic manufacturing, making primarily Ca Reactors and skimmers.... Very popular in Europe, and expensive too...

I just threw out my Dupla color chart and vial a few weeks ago, couldn't get regents. Oh well, Thanks for the info, John

Sounds interesting, im in the market for a Ca reactor. I am of course considering the Tunze with the osmolator. But I do love high quality products.

Roger would your Ca reactor work with a Ecosystem sump? Where would I place it?

Thanks

The Osmolator connects to the Calcium Dispenser which is just a kalkwasser doser and not a reactor. Our reactor 3174/3 is not going to be as good as the large Schuran units or Korallin but compares favorably to smaller units and fills a specific niche for in tank or sump small body reactors. I can't say I am too familiar with ecosystem sumps but you will need at least 8" of water and a 5" square area.
