The angel thread to end all angel threads: all owners of angelfish in reefs respond!!

1. Lemon peel angel- not reef safe in my opinion. Killed a 6 headed candy cane and almost killed a wellso in a matter of 2 days. Needless to say he went back to the LFS
2. Coral beauty- never ate any of my LPS, didn't have him with SPS or clams.
3. Potters angel- had him for a month now in a mixed reef; zoas, sps, wellso, leather, anemone and 5 clams so far he hasn't eaten or picked at anything but the rock and cleans the shell of the clam. Hope it stays that way.

Small juvenile Majestic Angel 1 – 1 ½ inches. Not Reef safe. Not even close. Started nipping at everything after 2 weeks and the next weekend while I was away she wiped out 2 separate colonies of my prized purple hammer corals.

Multicolor angel- so far reef safe and hasn't touched anything, no SPS in tank right now
Lemonpeel- completely not reef safe, had to remove a lobo, acans and wellso
Yellow Belly Regal- nipped at wellso.

Bicolor Angel - Eats zoas, brains, lobos, and wellso, doesn't touch any other softies or LPS
Flame Angel - Doesn't touch any LPS or softies
Coral Beauty - Doesn't touch any LPS or softies

No SPS in tank

Had a flame angel years ago in another reef system and he was a model citizen. Added another flame angel to my current system, and immediately had to order a fish trap to get him out because he was picking my LPS to death.

Flameback Angel (African)

Nipped at the polyps of a leather finger coral... removed said coral from tnak and he has not bothered anyone else :-)

Over 1 year with my coral beauty and flame angel and theyve started eating sps. Not nipping but chomping. Ive started trying to catch them. Thy have taken a liking to my millies and more expensive acros and montis. They leave the hardy stuff alone. Go figure.

Nipping Flames

Nipping Flames

I've had a pair of Flames in a 180 for 2 days. Today they started nipping sps (montipora and pocillopora, not nipping acros) and cyphastrea.

Haven't nipped other LPS in the tank (hammer, chalice, candy cane, blasto, acans). Haven't nipped my soft coral (1 toadstool leather).

Not nipping my clam.

They don't vigorously eat any coral. They just nip as they graze throughout the tank. I'm hoping that once they start taking nori they'll nip less. The nipping isn't too destructive yet but it is causing reduced (not eliminated) PE.

Centropyge acanthops (my second one)
4 months in tank before i caught him and returned him.
Very heavy nipping of all my Acans and also very interested in yellow pocciliopora. Light nipping on all other SPS.

I have an Adult Koran Angel that's been in my tank for over 5 years now (raised from a juvie). He will eat any zoanthid I put in the tank (can take out about 20 polyps in ~ 30 seconds)...but leaves all the LPS and SPS alone. He's on a very short leash with me, as he's the aggressive bully of the tank.

I also have a Flame Angel that's only been in the display for a few weeks now. No issues to date.

I've only been going with the coral again in the last few months (since my flood a couple years ago) So I really wouldn't consider my tank to be overly 'stocked' with corals at the moment.

2 French Angels, 3yrs old and never had a problem with them eating SPS or soft corals. Will taste a gorgonian every now and then. Love the fish, great personality. Eat frozen PE Mysis daily with other foods. :fish2::fish1:

Ha the spread sheet been started? This is an awesome thread.

My own experience.

1 coral beauty never touched a coral. 55g

Another coral beuty at Kenya trees. 30g

Regal angel in a 300dd. Eats all Lps and zoas.

Good luck trapping that flame if he starts acting up. Man, that is the craftiest animal I've ever had to catch out of a reef setup.

I haven't tried, but I think I could do it easily (and with that, I'm now jinxed :fun2:). He constantly eats out of my hands and I'm thinking I could net him with a quick feeding.
