The "armitagei" of the Pacific... one beautiful hybrid I've waited for forever!

Hey guys, I've received some amazing fish this year and as always I'm backed up with sharing them... life with a stressful job, kids, a wife, and over 1000 gallons! One fish I've wanted forever is the fish shown below... Apolemichthys trimaculatus (the flagfin angel) is a beautiful and fairly common fish in the trade that is by far the most widely distributed of the Apolemichthys, being found from South Africa to the Central Pacific... in South Africa the fish hybridizes with A. kingi, in the Indian Ocean it hybridizes with A. xanthurus (known until the 1990s as Apolemichthys armitagei before being recognized as a hybrid), and in the Pacific it hybridizes with the beautiful A. xanthopunctatus (the goldflake angel). First I will share a grainy video taken by my good friend William Crook out in Hawaii... the first part of the video shows a bunch of typical large (~6") goldflakes... then you see a yellow fish come into the frame... WHAT A FISH!

And at last in my hand... this fish passes the wife test! My armitagei honestly is a muddied trimaculatus, but this fish is AMAZING! Check it out!:celeb3:

WOW John! Very nice!

How big is he?

I've got a nice 5" Goldflake that doesn't use his tail to swim at all so he gets pretty beat up... Kinda weird!

So what other fish did you get in?

Thanks Chris... although nature makes them... we are just lucky to keep them in our homes (and you my friend have a nice collection yourself!)... :)

Thanks Ryan... this is a large fish... around 6 to 7 inches... I've received many unique fish... too many to list really and some that passed not too long after... this fish below I've had since early this year despite spilling bleach on it... :)

Absolutely stunning! The difference between this fish with the yellow is unreal. I think we all want to hear what other cool stuff you have that we don't know about!

Thanks guys... hey Bruce, I used to spend part of my summers in middle and high school at the University of Guelph playing hockey! Small world... either way... here's a cool key shot... :) You won't see another one of these fish, even after spending 30 years diving Cabo! :)

I had only seen one of these in a Hong Kong publication years ago, and it was a larger juvenile... this girl was smaller than my key last year when I got her... I need updated shots now that she's lost most all of the white stripes, except for the one she'll carry through adulthood! :)

So YOU were the one that got that flame pair...I should've guessed :) Congrats on the nice additions :) Any updated pics on the xanthic angels (blue or queen?), the "koi" Zebrasomas, or any of the other oddities that you have?

I sooooooooooooo want that fish!!! I love Angels, but know that is one that will always escape me :( Amazingly beautiful little girl you got there though Copps!

Here is a pic of my buddy (hope you don't mind me sharing/ and this isn't considered a hyjack)

Unfortunately my picture skills are no where in comparison to yours! Sure would love to see an updated photo of your clarion x passer hybrid ;)
