The Austrian Drop Off taken over by Acroporas

Hey Bülent!

thanks for the kind words!
as for the aiptasia i have tried the shrimps and the Bergia... first time the Bergia ate all he Aiptasia they could find but as you said it´s not possible to eliminate them all...
i once had Filefish but after some days i found that my Acans had little holes in their tissue...
but i think i´ll have to try again... i also love the copper band but they also tend to feed on my acans...

Cheers

It is my fault that I forgot to mention that Matted file fish is reef safe only when you have a 100%-SPS tank. When Aiptasia infestation reached plague proportions in my tank, I had to sell all my LPS corals, as well as much treasured Tridacnid clams, so that I could get this fish.

If you decide to resort to chemical warfare instead, then I recommend Joes Juice, which I believe contains (among other ingredients) sodium hydroxide (NaOH), which is very potent in killing not only Aiptasia, but also green hair algae and byropsis. There is, however, increased risk in killing corals (if you use NAOH in pure form) if the chemical comes in contact with corals and in raising pH very suddenly. So, caution is required. If you are interested, I can dig out some reading material on the preparation and application of sodium hydroxide.

Cheers

wow selling all my lps would be very hard but i could give them into care! that is a good idea! but i don´t know if i will be able to remove all... :hmm5:
i really don´t like the chemcial warfare because i haven´t had that much sucess with that... even Joes Juice... and i think i am way beyond that now...
but i am always up for some reading!

hmmm now i have to think about removing the lps... :lolspin:

Cheers,
Flo

Hi Flo,

Your tank looks in tip top condition. Did you tilt the powermodule to avoid glare on your eyes while lying down on the sofa? What are you keeping on top of the unit near the exhaust point?

sry Bülent forgot about your first question!

i don´t tilt the Pacific Sun anywhere... i have no problem with it and my gf has to live with it... :lolspin:
the thing on top is my automatic feeder from JBL... wasn´t able to mount it anywhere else...

Cheers

so i finally got the chance to test a Macspect Gyre xf130 and what can i say...?
wow what a difference!
don´t get me wrong i really love my MP10s but the combination of shallow and long isn´t the best for those pumps!

so now i´ve got one 130 running in the middle at 80% and the movement is way better! hope that will work for my tank.... i even could mount a second one right beside the other :lolspin:

Cheers,
Flo

.... still no idea who will eat those damn aiptasia...

Muellers Copperband (Chelmon muelleri) is an aiptasia destroyer and reef safe. He'll eat all feather dusters and worms and may nip at clams, but as far as corals, mine never touched anemones, zoas,LPS,SPS ect.

They are very hardy as well.

thanks Ed!

will keep an eye out for that one!

I've recently added a peppermint shrimp and watched it consume several small glass anemones that had popped up. There are a couple of different species sold as peppermint shrimp and they look very similar but you need
lysmata wurdemanni

thanks mate!
yes i´ve tried the Kuekenthali and that was a waste of money...
one idea is to give my LPS to my friends for some time and let a fish kill them all... but i know that they will return...

will try to get my hands on some wurdemanni!

Cheers

Those pictures and that dropoff is still simply amazing to look at. Sorry about the goby capture fail ... damn little punk.

thanks Mark!
yes the fish is driving me crazy! :lolspin:

another Maxspect Gyre to my tank... two on the back of the shallow area should proof to give me perfect flow in the whole tank!
the deep end still will be powered by the MP40!

opinions? ^^

Cheers

Sounds fantastic to me. Maybe put a little coral snow in the tank and see how the gyre flow does in the dropoff? I bet it makes some nice turbulence.

can´t wait to get my Apex and connect them and give them a propper schedule for the day! ;)

Coming along nice. I got on top of my aiptasia issues with a combination of peppermint shrimp and a manjo wand.
