The Austrian Drop Off taken over by Acroporas

I'm running a bubble king as well, and when I upgraded my mp60s to QD, I couldn't believe how quiet my tank got. You won't regret upgrading.
uh MP60QD very nice!!

i just ordered a MP40QD for the drop down area!
the mp10QD will replace my oldest mp10 in the shallow area... maybe the old mp10 will go on the other side in the drop down area with low rpm... wait and see... :D

Cheers

You can just buy the QD driver upgrade to get the quietness.

does that really work? how can a driver make a motor more quiet? :spin2:

I believe the new QD MP40's and MP60's got a redesigned wet/dry side as well as the new QD driver. If you have an MP-10 you'll save a ton of money just upgrading the driver as the wet/dry sides are still the same; that's what I did.

Even if you don't buy a whole new QD MP40 or 60 you'll still see a noise reduction in just upgrading the drivers.

I'm not a electrical engineer, but the QD driver puts out a cleaner/smoother power to the motor that makes the motor itself run smoother which reduces noise.

wow thanks mate! really seems to be working and it´s way cheaper than buying new ones!! didn´t expect that...
but you are right, the wet side seems to be exactly the same.. dry side maybe too... perfect!

Hi Flo ! I have found out that a vlamingi tang is great to clear bubble algae. I myself went through the bubble algae infestation. I did not purchase the vlamingi, a friend gave it to me due to him leaving the hobby. That single fish cleared my 120g of bubble algae in under 2 weeks.

Hope this helps !

Hi Flo,
Thanks for all the pictures. I absolutely love this thread!
Just a few more days now (I hope) till I get the 8x39W/2x145W P.Hyperion :bounce3:

My tank is 75cm wide. How high above the water line do you think I can hang the lamp without light spilling directly over the sides of the tank?

What are the dimensions of your tank?

Hey Paal my European neighbor!! ;)

thanks!!

i would say at least 25cm above the water line!
but they recommend around 20cm but i need those 25 for taking pictures :D
my tank is 70cm wide and 155 long... shallow 35 and drop off another 40cm down!

hope you are happy with your new lamp! let me know what you think or if you need any help with programming it... can be tricky :hmm3:

Thanks Flo!
25cm sounds good! I was hoping I could raise it a bit so I can get a good top-down view without it spilling too much light on the floor. My GF hates that. :P She also hates noise... that is why we have more equipment in common:
Scheduled to arrive this Friday: Both the light AND a new skimmer: BK double cone 180 with RD3 pump :D:D:D (Now, I am officially broke)
It will replace a 2 week old Nyos Quantum(!) I bought that one because of the "silent operation" hype, but my... it is simply too loud for a living room tank. Will be interesting to do a decibel comparison when the BK arrives.

I will let you know for sure if I have any issues with the lamp. I love playing around with gadgets though, so I do not think it will be too much of an issue.
