i really want one of these skimmers , but I am thinking of waiting for the ehiem pumps. what do you think.

I don't see any reason to wait. The Eheim pumps jack the price up pretty significantly. If you are gonna spend what they want for an Eheim, you might as well go get an MSX skimmer or even an ATB.

The Atmann pumps are sweet little pumps. Mine has been running for 5 weeks now without a single hiccup. Fired up first time and hasn't had any restart issues. I see no need for an Eheim pump.

thats what i was thinking that the price would go up a lot. good point. what skimmer would you get for a 120 gallon tank. 4x4x2 .thanks in advance.

you might want to look into BM 180CS, it seems very nice, but it's really new, therefore, no reviews for this skimmer yet.

Does anyone have anything to say about the bm99? I like the idea of a maxi jet w/ pinwheel over the atman with mesh wheel since alot of posts lead me to believe they are junk.

What posts are you talking about?

Almost anyone that has used the Atman has liked it. Is it an Askoll? NO, but it is still very nice. It out performs any other pump in its price range. It will out perform a more expensive Aquabee and it is better than the junk Vertex and Reef Octopus use.

The new SWC cones are using Atmann pumps too. I would be willing to bet that the Atmann pumps have the same insides as some "big name" pump but they just label it different. I actually think the Aquabee's and Atmann's are very similar.

Just my 2 cents.

I scanned back thru a few pages but I cant find it...been reading thru this thread since 8 last nite. I was on the verge of buying a reef octo when I stumbled onto it. Ive never owned nor modded a mesh wheel so i have no 1st hand knowledge but there are several posts that showed concern about them and at least 1 broken. If your up on this Id love to hear what you have to say cuz Im buying something soon. Cant decide if I want the nac 6 or 7...running a 90 gallon mixed reef with moderate load thats growing and possibly buying a 125 tank next week.

I read somewhere that the Atman pumps are the same as Via Aqua.
I have never used a Via Aqua. I bought mys NAC6 used and had some initla issues with the meshweel breaking and the Atman not working very well. I got some great customer service from Nuocean even though I wasn't the inital buyer. Thing works like a charm now. It's on a 40 gallon with 11 gallon sump.

I think either one would be fine.

I haven't used mesh before either but when I talked to Rob at Marine Solutions he said he has been running his mesh for 8 months now and no issues. I know someone else posted that they have been running their's for 10 months now.

I really do wish they had a good pinwheel that came along with the Atmann 2500 but it does come with an extra mesh wheel. I figure if I can get 18 months out of both they will have come out with something I can upgrade to.

Ive had my NAC6 running for 2 days now. Was pulling out some nice skimmate but not anymore. Seems yesterday one of the impellers broke at plastic hub. So I replaced it with the spare that comes with the unit. Woke up this morning and that impeller broke too.
I did notice they seemed a little loose in the pump and made a slight rattling noise.
Guess I got what I paid for :(

Baalz : thats why I opted for the bm150 pro...no meshwheel..
you are not the only one I've heard of with a busted meshwheel in a short peiod of time..perhaps they will come out with a pinwheel for the atman...

Looks like they do make a pinwheel for the Atman. Check this out. Not sure if Chris sells them separate from the pump.

I just picked up my NAC6A yesterday and for the price you can't go wrong. Aside from the pump, this thing looks to be on par with many skimmers costing way more. I am going to run it with about 8" of water due to sump limitations.

Is there really a pump retrofit to put an Eheim in coming out?

That is too bad. I haven't had any issues with mine. It is definitely covered under warranty. I would contact whoever you got it from and have them send you out two replacements and even see if they have the pinwheel available.

:wavehand:

I just ordered my BM NAC6! $155 shipped from Nuocean..

I recently took a Hiatus from Reefing, but after 5-6 Months I need my fix once again!

I'm going with the Marineland 60 Gallon Reef Ready Cube 24x24x24. Don't have a whole lot of free space under the tank and the NAC6 should fit perfectly in my 20 Gallon DIY sump I'm planning..

Thanks to everyone on here for sharing their experiences with the BM Skimmers. From what I've seen they can't be beat for the Money...
