Still using it, and it still performs great! I have had to replace the brush once and the batteries twice. The electrical tape around the battery compartment works like a charm to keep the water out when cleaning the bottom of the tank.

Vert20, good to know about the electrical tape. I already went through three of them and wasn't going to try another. I just can't understand how it is acceptable to leak when it is specifically made for use in water.

I guess that the intended use (in a sink) or with running tap water does not place enough pressure against the seals so it may not leak when used as intended. However when submerged to 2-3 feet, the pressure on those seals is substantially more.

I ruined one before I tried the electrical tape with the 2nd one.


BTW the brush bristles do soften over time and use. Before I replaced the original brush it had become innefective at scrubbing away most of the more persistant algaes. After replacement it was like new again, really a great scrubber!

Yep, just used my last week. And I too put electrical tape around the battery compartment seam.

Ditto... I mainly use mine to clean my gravel now. It's too hard for me to pick out rocks and scrub them with a 20g, and 2 BTA's on seperate rocks, etc....

Still, it's one dandy tool

if the rotation causes too much splashing while using left handed, the instructions say to put the batteries in backwards and it will rotate the other direction.

Turning the batteries around will cause it to rotate backwards, but it won't change the speed of rotation , surely. How would that cause less splashing?

Because the bristles will be hitting a surface at a different direction I guess. It does have less splashing when using it in the other hand.

I put that in because that is what the instructions said.

I know this thread is super old but to anyone still not convinced I've used vaseline on leaky bulkheads with absolutely no ill effects which is great considering how silicone sealant will corrode plastic.

Awesome tip!!! Didn't read the whole thread but I know it's glass and acrylic safe, but is it silicone safe? Will it do any damage to the inside corners of a glass tank?

The bristles are pretty darn stiff, so I'm not sure (I don't have silicone seams) It does do wonders for the algae the you just can't seem to get out of the corners.
