do you guys think the mj will last long in a wavemaker?? if is just a click sound i can live with that, and thank you for your respond guys

I don't see why a modded MJ wouldn't last on a wave timer anymore than an unmodded MJ. People have been using MJ's on wave timers for years now without any problems. Aside from normal wear and tear that all powerheads will have, I don't see any reason why you can't use them.

Even if the MJ's only last a couple years, they're cheap to replace and the really nice part about this mod is that it's interchangeable between all MJ's. :)

Oh and propellers are easy and cheap to replace as well

Here are some new photos of a 1.75 Dumas mod on a MJ1200. This thing puts out some serious flow. The housing is about 1.5 " in length.

That looks sweet. Are you using a dark grey 1.5" SCH40 slip coupling under the existing 1.5" SCH80 pipe (dark grey)? I ordered both sizes of propellors so I may try both. I only have a 75 gallon with 12 new frags. I'm afraid 2 of the 1.75 will become a tsunami.

No need for two 1.75" Dumas props for a 75g tank.

Actually the housing is a light grey 1.5" slip coupling over a SCH80 PVC (used for the groove) I just painted it with Krylon Fusion satin black.

Does that Fusion seem pretty safe? I would like to paint my light grey pipe and also paint my white egg crates for my lid? Any opinions on whether it's tank safe?

I've been using it for a while now without any problems. Others have used this paint as well with no issues.

Infact people have been using Krylon Fusion and other paint made for plastic for years now without problems.

You have to make sure that the paint is for plastic though and Krylon Fusion is made especially for plastic as it bonds to it at the molecular level. It is made from basically the same stuff as PVC pipes and such. Just be sure to let dry and cure completely.

The test cap doesn't seem to want to fit nicely over a MJ1200. It seems the "raised part" of the MJ (with the o-ring gasket) interferes.

Do you grind this part of the body down? If I went with the 1.5" PVC, would this eliminate this problem?

easier than grinding. Take the black rubber O-ring out and it will fit perfectly :)

If my memory is correct, didn't you try the gray conduit in the electrical department? If so they have a flaired end on it the fits over the non flaired end. So couldn't you us the larger end to house the 1.75 prop after making the smaller end fit the MJ? I'm just thinking that way you wouldn't have to paint the PVC and the natural flair of the pipe may also be easier to adapt to the MJ. Downside is that there is only one flair per pipe.

A pic is a thousand words, too bad I can't get the pic in the tread. Here is what I mean.

the 1 1/2 inch measurements are ID= 1.610 and OD = 1.90.

RV8tor - Yeah I thought of that and I do have one flared end that you're referring to. The gray is still way too light though ( about the same as my previous photo of the light grey slip coupling)

prop overlap

prop overlap

When using dual nitro props there's a little overlap of the props. Critter showed it well in this pic.

In the pic. the leading edge of the second prop. overlaps the first. If the first prop. is rotated forward a little, the leading edge of the second prop. goes under it. Has anyone tried it both ways to see if one way is more efficient than the other?

I've done it both ways (under as well as over lapping) and it didn't make any difference in the flow.

Not enough of a change in pitch to make a difference IMO.
