No the 1 3/4" prop will not fit into a 1 1/2" PVC pipe. You will need to find a 1 3/4" PVC pipe (if you can find one) to fit one. I have only seen 2" PVC pipes around but never 1 3/4"

If you're going to use the 2" pipe though, you will need to come up with some way to fit that onto the MJ body as 2" would be way to large

By the way the ID of the 1 1/2" SCH40 PVC pipe is actually 1 5/8" slightly larger than what they are classified as.

Also I finally found some SCH40 gray PVC pipes at Home Depot. Theye were on the electrical aisle.

The colour is a quite a bit lighter than the MJ but at least it's not glaringly white anymore

Don't forget to drill out the metal inserts in those if you choose to use them. Wouldn't want them to rust or worse contaminate your tank.

I got the carbon fiber rod from towerhobbies.com and I've noticed that its very very very slightly larger than the actual rod that comes with the mazijet and doesn't go in as smoothly. Is this a bad thing? Also, on my mj1200 with a 1.25" prop, how long should I cut the pvc pipe/ carbon fiber rod. Basicall,y how big should that housing be? Thanks!

Here are a couple of pics of mine. About the only change I made was to the cross brace. I made a flat one first and noticed the flow was disrupted quite a bit by it (could be mine was too wide). So I made a second one with a thin brace and streamlined it. I tried to shape it after an airplane wing so the water would slip around it. It seemed to make a big difference. Now I still gotta figure out that mount...

I painted one black using Krylon Fusion. But I didn't like the glossy look so much so I chucked it.

Instead I found some SCH40 gray PVC pipes at Home Depot's electrical section and will be using those instead on my next batch

Sorry for no photos, but I'll try and explain what I did --

I had an old MJ impeller 'cover' and found that with the output 'spout' cut off, it fits INSIDE the threaded end of a 1.5" MALE thread x slip adaptor, almost like a slip fitting, if that makes sense. I cut the top off from the cover and wound up with something almost like the test cap. Since the ID of the slip end is 1.9" (because it goes on the outside of the 1.5" pipe), I was able to fit a 1.75" prop inside. Otherwise just like the regular build. I first tried with a MJ900, but it would run for a bit and then just stutter back and forth.

Hope this makes some sense at all, this is a great concept you guys started, I hope we can get it to the next level w/something bigger. I priced the Tunze units and they are really pricey! Great mod you guys!

Hey tleip! Great to know you've had success with the original impeller cover. I don't have access to a miter saw to make the groove. And I just called the 6th and last local plumbing supply store looking for a pvc test cap with no luck. I found them online but don't want to pay shipping. think you could get a pic or 2?

You've got to be kidding. Wow, do you have a Home Depot or Lowes? Both of those have them here. Some people call them a pvc knock-out.

sorry, my camera is on the blink -- I used a dremel to cut of the output-spout and cut off the top of the cover sort of like was done with the test cap by dhnguyen. I used some ABS pipe cement to glue it to the PVC fitting and it has worked so far (it was what I had laying around, so not sure it is the best for the job, but it did work.

I found the test caps with the ABS pipe, not with the PVC at my home depot if that helps anyone
