Well,

They charged me $30 which included shipping. I just had to send my Impellars. I cant tell you how cool it is to have these things.

I just gotta get a wave maker for them and Ill be rocking!

when you go to tower hobbies it says that customers who purchase this prop also buy .098 graphite rod and thick cyano glue. ha ha

I'd venture to say, that if you can fit the prop or props into the 2" pvc it will turn them. :) This to date is the best DIY i've done... cheap and 200% effective from the moment you put it in the tank.
I now run my maxi stream 12 hours during the daytime.. and at night it goes off... and I then run a maxijet 1200 for nice easy going current lol.

Has anyone else noticed these things being really noisey?

Mine are really starting to bug me. It sounds like a real high pitched buzzing sound.

Thanks.

Yeah, mine did that on my first try... I had two things wrong.. My props were on backwards, and the shaft wasn't centered. I think the noise came from the shaft not being centered. I redid my cross brace and fixed my props and the noise went away.. if I put my ear right above the water where mine is I can only hear a slight hum of the props turning. The noise you are hearing could be the magnet rubbing inside as mine was doing from not being centered. Take some measurements... it doesn't have to be perfect cause there is a little room to work with... but it should be close.

Well I tried twisting the actually impellar chamber around and it seems to have quieted it down quite a bit. Also I kinda jumped the gun, most of the noise was coming from my cheap ViaAqua 1300 return pump. I have to keep reseating the impellar.

I orderd the dark grey PVC from McMaster-Carr and I'm still waiting for the parts from Tower Hobby...I CAN'T WAIT to make these!

Question: For those who have these in place, do you run them 24/7? If not, how often? How many are in your tank? And what variation of the mod do you have (1 or 2 prop; MJ 400, 900, 1200; etc...)

Thanks for your help.

BTW - I was planning on having 2, single prop MJ900s in a 75 reef. Originally I was going to run both of them 24/7, but I just saw that Critter is only running his during the day, and then having just a MJ1200 at night...

I have a 215g with two of the single-prop MJ900's (Nitro props). I have them on alternating timers with a 30 minute cycle. They are blowing right across the top of the reef. My tank is mostly softies and lps.

Uh Oh...

I was planning the same setup (2 900s with single prop Nitros)...but on a 75.

Is that too much flow?

Probably depends on where you point them and what kind of corals you have among other things. Others on here have similar setups on 4ft tanks without problems. Also depends on what flow you have from other sources. I have about 2000gph from other sources on mine. I think 15-20x flow is ok for most tanks.

ok...but DEFINITELY don't have both running at the same time, right? That would mean I'd have close to 3000gph (x35+ flow)
