Anyway, you should have an internal return pump as you just plonk them in the water with no drilling. Don't add the sand for the first month so you have total control over the water without dealing with any cyano etc that might pop up. BB for the first 4-6 weeks makes dealing with pesty stuff so much easier Bob. Only takes a few hours to add the sand when you're confident things are going according to plan. :)

Just suggestions mate so you do what you think is best. Painting the stand isn't an option as we've moved past that stage of the build now Matt. :thumbsup:

My 6-7 old return pump magnet somehow cracked and has been running like that for who knows how long :facepalm: When i removed it, it was redder then a prostitutes V!


After cleaning it to check the damage, I'm suprised this new pump cracked a impeller, For anyone thats interested what pump it was, Quiet One 2200

Any suggestions on a new pump? Something that is reliable and doesnt get to hot..

The newer dc pumps seem to be pretty reliable.... Maybe not as rock solid as Biggles's Eheim suggestion (so, he happens to be right, once in a while) but they run quiet, more efficiently and cooler, I think..
 
Im looking at the Waveline products, It is apex ready, but I wont be needing to ramp up or down during feeding times, or any other times besides doing water changes.. Waiting till black friday for all the gizmo's are on sale sucks..

Hopefully these are the items I will be getting during the sale:
Upgraded wetside mp40 QD ( one just crapped the bed )
Waveline DC pump
dosing containers
top off container ( I've been using a 5 gallon bucket and it needs to go! )


So I finished doing the plumbing, Acouple of plastic hose clamps and shes ready to go, Besides the stink'n return pump. I Might just use my crappy one pump till I get ahold of the other pump.


Any suggestions on which scape I should do?

I like A, because its minimal, I want the corals to create my scape, instead of building up my rocks, they're alot of surface area to mount as well!

The plumbing job is fantastic, nicely done, I like the scape rock as well, going to look slick when you get all those colorful corals mounted :)
 
For me I like a the best, the others are fine but all come across as similar heights. It might just be picture. Hopefully it won't matter about the scape too much because it will all be covered in acro goodness!
 
The first one is perfect for acro scaping Bob, glue a small acrylic base to the small rock so it's much more stable and won't topple one day when the acros grow big enough. :)

I hope everything will be covered in acros as well! I oped for a open space, slightly lower aquascape so the corals can grow upwards..

So I did an early black friday shopping... Well not me but the wifey.. She controls the $ :twitch: JK, the seller was in my hometown, and I got it for a very low super price! So that means She will be holding it till I get there.. It also means shopping for the lad =(

To bad its a holiday weekend coming up :sad2: the tank wont be able to run this weekend. HOPEFULLY I will have everything done by the following weekend!

I also drilled my Sump for an external pump.. I know I wanted an internal pump, but with the Matrix rocks There was no where else to put it besides the return section. SAHIN ! You better be right that these stuff works! J.K :lolspin:

2x mp40 QD wetsides, I wanted the Driver as well, but she said NO :p

Couple of things Bob. That pump is white and that's the noisiest reef color going buddy, ever heard the term 'white noise'. See the two wet sides - all black and surprise, surprise they're called QUIET DRIVES......... it that pump annoys you just spray it black and it'll be quiet as a mouse underwater. :thumbsup:

Fancy dancy return pump. :D I like my eheim, perfect for lazy people like me who never clean anything. Everything is looking good, even the temporary holding tank.

I would run a eheim pump, but given the amount of space I am limited too, and also I already did the plumbing. I would hate to redo everything !

For some odd reason exotech switches from white controllers to black, and now their pumps were black and now it's going on white... They must have gotten something mixed up there :hmm5:

Mr. B you live in Australia! Have you heard of the candy Tim Tams? Get some and ship them here ok thanks :love1:
 
So I woke up this morning with a dozen text messages and emails, I found out power went out from 12 am to 5 am... While I am away from the tank..

Temp dropped from 78 to 71.8. I am so bummed out right now I can't even manage the tank because I am out of town..

Does anyone know if that temp drop will cause any damage?



The roommates used heaters which tripped the main breaker, those stupid people do not know how to shut off the heaters when they're asleep.

Besides maybe stressing the fish a bit and slowing down coral growth, that temp shouldn't cause major problems... I don't think..
 
That temp drop wont be too bad. I had a temp drop like that for over a week when we went on holiday and I left the window open. Fish did get whitespot but they were fine after a few weeks careful nutrition.

Thank you ya'll for the response, I've been crazy busy from work, and running new electrical wiring to the tank its been hectic!

Isn't it funny the impossible things always happen when your away from your tank and its the holidays?

I am glad I did not loose any fish or corals!
 
Update 12/3/15



Its cloudy a bit, Possibly mini bacterial bloom?


Working on the fish tank has been stressful trying to tranfer everything over, But I'm happy to say that it is done with!

Within 30 minutes corals show sign of great P.E and minimal slime besides the browning everything is good!!

Next time I move I will be mixing water 5-6 hours before tranfering. I literally was mixing water while tranfering everything because I thought I had enough:sad1: Even though the PH spiked to 8.5 I think everything is went smoother then a woman that hasn't shaved in months:lol:

Lighting

I really cant say what I want as far as lighting wise, Either buy 1 more radion and remake a canopy

Or buy a 36" dimmable 6bulb ATI unit,

One thing that concerns is The light will be hung 6-10 inches from the surface, and from the surface to the rockwork will be 18-22 inches. Par will decrease significantly around the edges!

Dosing suppliments


I will start dosing Salifert AminoAcid, Theres not much reviews besides people getting cyano, But I cannot think of any other brand (zeovit Amino is 50$) and I'm not paying that much for something that might work!

If ya'll have any comments or suggestions on what type Please let me know!

I will also be dosing B Balance from Zeo, I hear good things, So I will try it out..

Moving Foward

There's still things that I have to take care of!
1.cut corals off rock and mount to new rocks
2.run reactor hose neatly
3.find a good enough basket to put matrix in the sump
4.SAND!?
5.Hide those hideous wires in a cabinet!

DSLR will be next week!

Well. I'm a t5 mh guy so I'd say go t5. Great spread and fewer shadows..
Acropower is essentially the same as salifert aminos- mainly aspartic acid. From info on mhucasey's thread, I learned that acropower has a little added sugar or sweetener of some kind to feed nutrient reducing bacteria which is supposed to help reduce cyano buildup...

System is looking good!
