what pump are you using? I have a svs2-24 that I plan on using an Eheim 1260 with. I know the Mag9.5 are the standard recommended by Jeff, but I have found Eheim pumps very reliable, efficient and quiet.
I am looking at purchasing the 36" and I am trying to figure out which pump would be not only long lasting but also energy efficient. Do you have any suggestions?
Came with it, Dennis. A vent I suppose, this thing looks pretty 1st generation!
Maybe Jeff will chime in on it.
I think I'm going to get a new Mag 9.5 for it since the MD55RLT from the Bullet is overkill.
No reactor. Using the skimmer with the "ozone kit".
From the website...
"The unique nature of the Lifereef protein skimmers air circulation allows any unused ozone to be recirculated back into the skimmer for complete ozone utilization.
NO ozone escapes into the cabinet and no special carbon filter is required."
Back in 1994 when I had the design, Ozone generators were different as well as the understanding of how they worked. The old Skimmer design didn't have the Venturi attached to the cup as they do now. That was the reason for the Carbon in the lid with Ozone
If i'm doing a FOWLR only on a 75 gallon tank with really no plans to go reef anytime in the future, do you think this skimmer is even necessary? Is the benefits to jeffs skimmers more for reefs?
You'll still need to export nutrients from a FOWLR. If I had a fish-only setup I wouldn't want algae all over the place, and unless you have some aggressive algae eaters, nutrient buildup could be a problem, especially if you have some big messy eaters.
But yeah... fish poop whether they are in a reef environment or not.
You gotta get rid of that poop, especially when you don't have anything in the tank (coral) that utilize it.
