The Life Reef Skimmer Club

Thanks for getting back to me, just home from midnight shift, I'll look for a volute for the 1262. Anyone have a good source?
Thanks
Ed

Figured out why my skimmer wasn't performing as well as it used to.... part of a snail shell in the venturi lol. That's what I get for not using the filter block on the pump

what happens when jeff retires? is there anyone under him learning and going to carry on the business? whats the life span of this skimmer? would a person actually use the same skimmer for 20 or more years?

I do not think that is much of a concern... I have seen people who have had his skimmer for 10-15 years and still running like a champ.. Take care of your skimmer and it should never break from general use... Same goes for his sumps...

I think it is going to take a new technology or something brilliant to really make you decide that it is time to switch from his skimmer. With that said, the skimmer is probably not going to get replaced for a very long time.

Plus I am sure if the business does not get passed on once he retires he will still support and provide warranty coverage for those folks who have items still in warranty.

Who knows retirement to him may be just slowing down the business... After all it is a hobby for him.

It is not the impeller that is the difference, it is the volute. The 1260 has smaller openings than the 1262.

It's not just that. You have to compare the flow rate at similar head pressure to see. Since you are going through a venturi, you need adequate flow and pressure.

The volute is the only difference between the Eheim models 1260 and 1262. That difference creates different flow rates, or they would be the same model. :hmm5:

i placed my order around noon today and now waiting of jeff to call so i can pay. as of last night he said he only had 2 svs3-30's left and i was trying to shuffle money around otherwise i would have pulled the trigger last night. he also said that he would be unavailable today but if i wanted i could put in my order in today and we would settle up next week... IF i manage to have placed my order before the next guy i should have my skimmer, im guessing, in the next couple weeks!

my sump is not baffled so i want to build this skimmer a box to sit in to maintain a constant water level like i did with my reef dynamics 135. i was planning on about 11" deep but no clue what to expect for the length and width with a mag 12... i also want to leave room to wiggle with and maybe try different pumps later down the road. so to the ones out there with this set up what would be good dimensions? is my planed depth too deep or shallow for best results? i like the boxes because its not permanent and gives me room to play with my sump.

thanks everyone.

11" is too deep. You'll be right up to the red adjustment knob.
8" would be better and put you right around the top of the outlet.

and top of the outlet is what i want? makes it better for splashing water and saves me from having to plumb a "t" in. thank you... any recommendations for the rest of the foot print? or is that what the 9 x12 is from the website is. i know i dont have my skimmer yet but i just want everything to be ready to run for when i do get it. best laid plans and all.

Ya, the footprint is on his website. Give yourself some wiggle room.
I run the mag 12 pump that came with the skimmer.

The skimmer can be used externally as well if need be. It doesn't have to sit in a sump. Mine is outside the stand. I have the 30" as well.

That was for you. Haven't figured out how to quote using Tapatalk.

Your house must look like mine. I have two Labs and 4 cats.

thank you sir. your running the water blaster 7000 pump right? you said you liked it. is it that much of an improvement over the mag 12?

I'm running a Water Blaster 7000 on my SVS3-30. I was trying to get as much heat as possible out of my system so I could decommission my chiller, and I felt like the WB would run cooler than the Magdrive and still put as much water into the skimmer.

It seems to work fine, I get plenty of flow through the skimmer and some really nasty nog production.

Ken, which pump do you run?
Does it take more energy to feed it externally vs internal?
I may have an opportunity to choose either way in the future but have always felt safer running internal in case of any kind of overflow.
Wondering if there is any advantage to running external besides less heat transfer from the pump.
