Nice Shaggss!
Between the skimmer and all those marine pure blocks you must have less than zero nitrates! :D

hahahah! no bio load yet so yeah no nitrates!

They are Cerameco blocks, read the marine pure block fall apart a little. I also ordered the ceramic rock for this build which I must say I am extremely happy with. Aesthetics wise anyway, can't comment yet on it filtration abilities!

Congrats grizzly! The newer VS3-48 is my dream skimmer
Actually joined the forum in search of a 24" for my 40B.

I have my original 1994 VS2-48 and the newer ones just make it look sick.
Unfortunately, after shutting my system down last year, I sold my
HVS2-24 and VS3-36. The 36" one I liked better than my older 48
mostly due to the VS3 flange, but also the self cleaning venturi.

I would like to get a used 24", but am prepared to put the only one I have left
on my 40B. Would take ~400 total including a new Reeflo SwordTail pump
and a 978 Mazzei. Not sure where to post in a classified sub forum though

Having mine for 21 yrs now, and still works speaks volumes.
You will never be disappointed with your life long investment :)

BTW my new VS3-36 was pushing a full head in something like 30 mins
after a vinegar bath, but was 50+% foam at the time too.

I think you need to be a member for at least 50 days or something like that to take part in the for sale threads ;)

Yes I was informed yesterday 90 days and 50 posts.
As nice a skimmer as they are, they don't show up on ebay often
and my experience with them, they never will except with an extended market crash or world war.
If ebay is still around, then you'll see lifereef equipment for sale more so.

I was just trying to avoid using a 48" skimmer on a 40g tank.
The last 24" on it as a BB tank, the skimmer was very bored
with nothing to do. Makes me think it a waste to even get the 48 going
I don't know. They're 2 different skimmers entirely.

Just purchased a new VS3 60.What a well constructed skimmer!
I am deciding what pump configuration I will use. (straight feed/recirculate)
I have a MAG 24 which is too powerful for just a straight feed pump....but I do not understand how I could use this single pump to feed AND recirculate at the same time.
Can anyone assist?

I did this with my VS3-36 from a single pump for counter current.

Problem with that for the shorter skimmer (36), is this decreased bubble production from the Mazzei due to less pressure, and increased the water volume, increasing water to air ratio.

It just requires a thought out manifold that won't be too obtrusive.
Careful of using street 90 elbows and insert/barbed fittings
as these reduce flow rate.

Is anyone running a long air line to the venturi to pull in outside air?
I could run about 12-15' of line straight up the wall and into my attic to pull in fresh air.
Was wondering if anything about the skimmer performance is altered by the long air line and if I need to upsize the airline or anything?

Hey Dennis

I have tee'd my intake line. One end to the cup and one end ten feet to my CO2 scrubber. I used the same diameter hose and didn't notice any performance drop from the skimmer. I know it is drawing air from the skimmer as the pH has gone up.

I was able to find a used VS3-24 on line. It is coming with 2 straight barbed fittings 1 each on the inlet and outlet. View attachment 320263

I need to install the skimmer in sump and would like to change the inlet barbed fitting to a 90 degree as shown on the lifereef site.

Does anyony know where can I get this 90 degree fitting?
