Not sure what you mean by isolating.... cavitation, maybe?

I've got a Jebao DCT-4000 running full speed on my 24" LifeReef in about 8" of water... the water line is about an inch above the outlet pipe. My pump is not sitting on the bottom of the sump, though. It's suspended by the feed hose... picture is better than description:

I turned the pump back to 60% (1700 gph) and its working a lot better...So maybe I had too much water going to it....

Am I reading this right?
Your pump is hanging off your skimmer via flex hose and straps?

That seems like a disastor waiting to happen in so many ways...

Joined the club!

Obviously bought used... Got a great deal on a 30" svs3! I wish more people took pride in their used equipment when they sell it and cleaned it up before shipping. This thing had a 1/4" of sludge 2" below the flange.

Traveling for work but its soaking in vinegar until i get back on Friday.

This is going on a currently very lightly stocked 280, total volume around 350. It will be running a mag18. Will probably upgrade the height as stocking increases. Thoughts on if it's necessary?

That was one of the main reasons I purchased this skimmer.
But with that said, my ozone doesn't run very much. My tanks stays
between 450-480 mV due to running a UV.
When it does kick in, which is right after I add Fuel (twice weekly) I don't see much of a decline.
 
I have few quick questions about new to me SVS2-24 skimmer. It looks like mine is older version of this skimmer, as it has cup drain at the bottom of the cup, and doesnt have V.A.M.P.

Questions: Where can I find replacement cup drain valve? For whatever reason I just have a fitting with hose attached to it that is open. All the skimate would automaticaly drain out due to this

Don't know about the venturi but having read through a decent amount of the thread, I think the life reef owner doesn't recommend the mazzei over the regular for the smaller skimmers based on what I've read.

The valve, you could simply get a hose barb to pipe thread adapter and a threaded ball valve. Or check home depot or Lowes for a valve with hose barbs on the ends.

On the 24" Lifereef skimmer model, I'm currently running Neptune's COR-15, which they rate at 1500 GPH. Would I get any better results with a higher GPH pump? Is there a point of diminishing returns? Is there such a thing as a pump that's TOO powerful?

Oh, and... For those who have tried the skimmer with and without the Mazzei venturi, what has your comparative experience been?

I think it will come down to preference unless there is something mechanically different between AC and DC pumps. Having said that I run a Cor 15 on my 24" Lifereef skimmer which dates back to 2001. I think he is shipping the 24" skimmer with Mag pumps, correct? Either 9.5, 12, or 18's. I forget which. In any case the Mag 9 is rated at 975 gph with the Mag 18 at 1500 gph.

I've run the Cor 15 at 65%, 80%, and 100% currently and see now difference in output. Personally speaking I will take the savings in a plug and power utilization.
 
I heard back from Jeff (quickly as always) on an email I posted. He says that the max you could put on the 24" is about 2400 gph, and with that you might have to throttle back. The issue is whether you get so much flow coming in that you can't regulate the internal water level anymore. So long as you can still regulate that internal water level, the more the merrier in terms of gph (my words, not his). I went ahead and ordered a Fluval SP6.

The typical pump that Lifereef matches with the 24" skimmer is the Mag 9.5 I believe. Right now, I've been running the COR-15 at 100% (knocking down to 1% if I'm on feed cycle or if my level sensor shows the sump level is too high).

Anyone ever had a neck cleaner installed on their Lifereef. Not a motorized one but one attached to the lid to where you can just manually turn it?

Anyone using a Fluval SP2 pump on the 24" model? I ended up buying this pump for a different project I had but it was too strong. I currently have a jebao pump on the skimmer now but I think it is losing efficiency because I have the pump at 100% and the gate valve is almost closed and still produce a pretty dry skim. Since I have this new pump laying around I was going to see if it did any better, what do you think?
