Not sure what you mean by isolating.... cavitation, maybe?

I've got a Jebao DCT-4000 running full speed on my 24" LifeReef in about 8" of water... the water line is about an inch above the outlet pipe. My pump is not sitting on the bottom of the sump, though. It's suspended by the feed hose... picture is better than description:

Thats how i have mine with a jebao dcp6500 hanging, cuts vibration noise down a lot.

Anyone using a Fluval SP2 pump on the 24" model? I ended up buying this pump for a different project I had but it was too strong. I currently have a jebao pump on the skimmer now but I think it is losing efficiency because I have the pump at 100% and the gate valve is almost closed and still produce a pretty dry skim. Since I have this new pump laying around I was going to see if it did any better, what do you think?

The Fluval SP2 will be underpowered. Although rated at 950 gph, it's max head height is a paltry 5'6". The minimum pump Jeff ecommends for the 24 is a Mag 9.5 at 950 gph at 15' max head height. That's a huge difference in pressure and flow through the venturi.

Is anyone running the VS3-72? Are you running the pump that was sold with it or another pump? Anyone running one internally?

So I just hooked up my svs-24. A moment I have been excited about for a long time...

Have mag 9.5 on it and it's noisy as hell. I have a rubber mat under the pump but sounds like a sonic earthquake under there right now.

I bought the pump used. I assume the pump is creating the noise.

Thoughts? Will "œbreak in" help this?

For reference I went from an all but silent Varios 8 return with very little sound to adding this mag 9.5 with skimmer that comparativly sounds like a hammer drill...

Thanks,
C

Though quite reliable, Mag Drives are noisey and energy hungry pumps unfortunately. For the 24” Lifereef, if you want a nice and quiet AC pump, take a look at the Fluval SP4. The new AC Sicce ADV 7.0 looks intriguing as well at only 55 watts.

Currently, I have a SVS3-24 Lifereef Skimmer using a MagDrive 9.5. Great pump, truly a low maintenance workhorse, but like others have said, it is loud. Eheim makes a new pump; EHIEM
COMPACTON 5000 (1320 GPH). It's quiet, runs a 70W and a small footprint. This is similar to SICCE 5.0, but runs at a lower wattage.

The MagDrive 950GPH works efficiently with the Lifereef skimmer. Should I be concerned the EHEIM 1320 GPH will create more bubble noise?

Any other thoughts?
Thanks—

Just so happens i have an SP4 ready to go. Guess I'll switch them out and put the mag back in the box for now.

Thanks for the info.

I figure it’s be similar to the performance of the Mag 9.5 with some savings on the electrical bill...

Mag 9.5 - 950 gph at 15’ and 93 watts vs. Eheim CompactOn - 1320 gph at 12’ and 70 watts

SP4 for the win!

Much quieter now.

Now I just have to get'er tuned in.

So pumped to finaly have this piece if work wet and running!!

Don't mind the mess. Still in the process of mounting equipment and tidying up.

What's the difference between the VS3 and the SVS3?
Anyone running one of these on a nano? I have a Red Sea Reefer 170 (34 gal w/ 9 gal sump) How would these work on a tank this size and what pump would you use?

My understanding is that VS is made for external use, while SVS is for internal. Only difference is that VS has few extra fittings that make it external, otherwise they are identical skimmer.
