Thanks for the compliments all. :)

What number drum are you using on the 8 way? Plumbing is impressive but trying to figure out your firing order!:o

I use custom drums. they are more or less version 3's + a port in between.

My rationale for this tank in question is while I do want no more than 3 ports open full at any given time, I dont ever want the spraybars to be both on full at any given time. this way when they do cycle on and off one of them will be getting hit with enough juice to clear the floor and get it all suspended. Ive played with many different 8-way drum configs on different systems and this is the winner IMO. Even though my larger tank doesnt use spraybars, It does have 4 ports going across the floor and this same drum cut works well there too

How's are your zoas doing Flyyyguy?
Do you have any new photos of your zoas or palys, or any current fts?
Thanks.

If this has been asked already my apoligizes :)

What did you use to attach the corals to the rock? Some kind of putty?

I peg nearly everything in both of my reefs. Using everything from tiny rocks to rocks that weigh a couple of pounds. All of the main rocks are riddled with holes at every usable angle imaginable. :) Of course, they are even kinda pegged themselves

So, when you add something new do you remove the whole rock to peg it into place?
Also, on some of my tonga rock a reg drill bit does not work. Do you use masonary bits?

And, again, fabulous tank!

No, before the main rocks ever go in they have been riddled with holes at every potentially usable angle imaginable. If you look really closely at some of the pics I posted you can see coutnless empty holes just waiting for me to fill and or/use them. You cant see them unless you really look closely

The "frag plugs" which I pictured one of in the above post, are done out of the tank. I always have assorted sizes of them made up sitting in my sump. The frag plugs are made by a quick shallow hole, some super glue gel and different sized acrylic rod depending ont he size of rock I intend on using

the plugs just easily slip[ into their holes with pretty much zero effort. All the work comes in the build, then it is forever easy and simply to mount new arrivals wherever you want, as well as to move stuff around whenever you want

make sense??

ya...tonga branch and some other rocks can be tough. I actually use diamond tile bits to cut the holes in that stuff, and never get as many as I want out of them. Tonga usually ends up getting stuff actually glued or epoxied to it rather than pegged.

In my sps tank I use lots of tonga. in this tank there are just a couple of pieces

Thanks for all the detailed explinations. I will have to try some drilling. Unfortunantly for me my whole tank is tonga branch. :)
Could you point me toward a good epoxy or glue for frags/rocks?

anything will work. Super glue gel or epoxy. I use IC gel or aquamend

its the hole you drill into the piece of rubble that holds the rod for the most part. The glue just fills any gaps so there is no movement and it sits solidly wherever you put it

*ahem*
Hi, how are ya? How's your zoa tank? Any new pics?

Interesting with a developed tank like yours,

Will you sell off and re collect or take your prized collection with you?

no new pics. and there probably wont be any for a while

I am moving to WA :)
Aww man. Are you having some help taking down the tank and all that stuff?

You know, I just noticed that you did in fact post an fts in those fts threads. Sorry, lol. And thank you for posting them.

Looks great. Seems like you feel the random flow generated by the OM8 is what you feel is most behind your success? I've always thought those were the best way to go when it came to creating chaotic flow, but I have yet to get one. Perhaps for my next tank.

I dont really need help moving my corals. The 1" thick 240 gallon tank takes 4 strong guys to move though both here and there.

I love my 8 ways. :) Are they the ey to success?? nah. Just icing on the cake. Random flow is important, but its not the most important thing by far. I wouldnt set up any tank without a 8 way though fwiw. :)

the polyp tank is easy. Its small and its just polyps and a few LPS.. Its the 240 SPS tank that worries me. I had the tank crack 4 or 5 months ago and had quite a few losses in the tank changeout/build and everything that goes along with a major dispruption like that. Things are just now starting to look good again. Im seriously afraid of moving a couple hundred sps corals and frags once again in such a short period of time. I have a pretty good idea of what it takes, but sps simply dont like to be moved, and all the stresses that go along with it. I will be sending frags of my favorites to friends for insurance for sure.

Onte major thing I do have going for me as far as moving is all of my corals are pegged, as are the rocks in both tanks. There is no cutting anything off of rocks. I just pick them up out of their slots. Even the larger sps I can remove from the tank in seconds.
